I am trying to enter the notes for a song that has a has a fill between key changes. Is there some way to indicate that the notes are a fill, and not to be played or sung? (I am making a "play along"). And is there a way of independently controlling the volume of the notes in the fill?
1. You could use a text box to enter some text like "not sung" or "instrumental".
2. The volume of the notes is controlled by velocity. There are a few ways to change this. If there aren't too many notes, the easiest way is via right-click on the note head and select "Edit Note" when in Notation Editor.... once there, just set the velocity to (say) 70, if the velocity is set to 90.

Copy the notes first using "Edit | Copy Special | Copy from... to...", then transpose using 'Edit | Transpose | Transpose from... to..." and, lastly, add the key change.

....Not sure I understand.
BiaB creates the fill notes when you press "generate," but only in the bass, piano, drums, guitar and strings tracks. BiaB does not create anything in the Melody or Soloist tracks.
If are entering the notes for a song in the Melody or Soloist channels, BiaB will not enter the notes of the fill.
If you are entering notes in another channel, freeze it first. Write whatever you want. Take out the fill notes if you like. Freezing will prevent BiaB from changing what you wrote.
What would be the purpose of having fill notes marked "Do Not Play?"
This forum has amazingly helpful people. I am so grateful.
You got that right! It would be a good idea to experiment with Noel's advice. Its a very useful tool.

I'm trying to make it look like the sheet music I am copying it from, so I can play along with it.
... simply click on the bar number until there is no part marker.
For example One click on a bar number without part markers will add a blue part marker to that bar.
A second click on the bar number now enclosed in a blue box will turn the part marker to a green one.
A third click on the bar number now enclosed in a green box will remove the part marker (unless it's a style that has more than two part markers available).

Now I'm wondering if I am not dealing with a parts marker. Clicking on the bar number doesn't seem to do anything. There is a red square outline around the bar number in notation mode. Does that indicate a parts marker?
In the chord mode there is a red line under the bar number. When I click on the number in chord view the box around the number changes colour, as you say, but I can't get he red underline to go away no matter how many times I click it.
On another question, is there anyway to make some of the notes smaller, about the size of grace notes? I want all the notes for several bars to be that size. This is what the notes on the "fill" are like on the music I am copying from.
The red underline indicates a Bar Setting (Function Key F5) is in place.
The Part Markers are demonstrated here on bars 2, 6 & 10. Each time a part marker is clicked the next available part marker type is selected, usually in this order: - No Part Marker, - a: Blue: Part marker type 1, - b: Green: Part marker 2
