Registering and authenticating are two different things. Registering your serial number with PGMusic ensures that your online account has access to the downloadable version of the files and records that you purchased the software.
Authenticating/authorizing is the process whereby you ensure your computer is legally running BIAB (or RealBand - you have to do it for both programs, even though it's the same serial number). You get to authorize the software on up to three computers.
If you actually previously authorized your software and it appears that it didn't take, I would close BIAB and then run it "as administrator" (you can right click on the desktop icon and select "run as administrator". to ensure it writes the correct information to your computer. Failing that, I would contact PGMusic support to see if they can help you.

When you purchased your product you either received the software as a downloadable files or on hard media like CDs, DVDs, USB hard drive or on a USB memory stick. Whichever way you received the software a serial number was given. Downloadable files are always available on your account page. The account page will include files for all your purchases since 2014 and the serial numbers issued with each program purchase. Hard copy the serial number is typically on a CD or DVD sleeve or on a card packed with the hard drive or USB memory stick.
For Band-in-a-Box 2018 press the Help menu button at the top of the screen and the last selection is "Activate Band-in-a-Box (Serial Number required) ...". The procedure is the same for RealBand, only the program name is changed. A window opens to enter the serial number or you will receive a message saying the program is already activated.
Jim, I appreciate your help, but I understand that process, and have done it. My question is you said there’s a difference between “authentication” and registering the product. I don’t see anything about authentication, and I have registered the product. Guess, I’ll contact support.
"Registering" means that you have logged in into your PG Music sales account and have entered your serial number in the "My Products" section that's found in the user area of the website. (see the top image below)
"Authorization" or "Activation" means that you've successfully applied the 'activating' process found under 'Help'. (see the lower image below)
Inasmuch as I understand PG Music's system, and I'm simply a user like you, REGISTRATION is a prerequisite for accessing downloads. ACTIVATION, on the other hand, is a prerequisite for running the program past the 30-day trial period.
From reading your posts, it sounds like you might have completed the second process but not the first.
Be sure to click on "Activate Band-in-a-Box" to double check. It will tell you if you are actually activated, if you already did it, or it will ask for your serial number if it isn't activated.
Also, the account information is accessible from the main PGMusic web site (http://www.pgmusic.com), not from the forum site. I suspect you created the account when you purchased BIAB, so those credentials can be used to access it (or if not, you can create your account). After you log in, if you click on "My Account", you will see your purchased products. If they are not there, you can enter you serial number (to register it) and then they will show up.

When you startup BIAB, right-click on the startup shortcut and select "Run as administrator". (This is needed to successfully use all the features that the program offers. Maybe the problem you're experiencing is related to this.)
To set the "Run as administrator" option permanently...
1. Right-click on the shortcut
2. Select "Properties"
3. Activate the "Run as admin" option that's found under the 'Compatibility' tab.
I run both BIAB and RB in Administrator Mode.
Lastly, any of the files that you are wanting to download with Download Manager can be manually retrieved (individually) from the "My Products" are of your sales account once the software is registered.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows® Today!
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows for free with build 1111!
With this update, there's more control when saving images from the Print Preview window, we've added defaults to the MultiPicker for sorting and font size, updated printing options, updated RealTracks and other content, and addressed user-reported issues with the StylePicker, MIDI Soloists, key signature changes, and more!
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
