If anyone on this site wants to try to do the music to these lyrics, have at it. I'll be interested in what everyone or anyone comes up with. I originally wrote this as a blues song, but I didn't like my take on the music as blues is not really my genre. This song could also be a country song if you leave off the last two lines of each verse and add the chorus. So you can do it in the V V C V B V style or the V V B V style or modify it anyway you need the words to work with your music. Good luck if you try.

Bottom Dollar Blues by Donna Evans

Verse 1
She’s a candy red hot
Fire whiskey, tequila shots
She’s waitin’ for me at the bar
Spends my money like a wild fire
Think I’m scorin’ but I lose
Got the bottom dollar blues

Verse 2
Hopin’ she’s my Lucky Star
She plays me like a lotto jar
We cruise and smooze around
My ticker tape’s runnin’ down
Then some final rounds of pool
Goes my bottom dollar blues

Bridge
Sunday church I’m confessin’
Can’t seem to learn my lesson
Party girls and booze
Give me the bottom dollar blues

Verse 3
She always reeves my engine
Sparing an intervention
I’m addicted to the night life
We live the weekends right
For her I’ll be the fool
With the bottom dollar blues

Optional Chorus
I got the bottom dollar blues
Think I’m scorin, but I lose
For her, I’ll be the fool
With the bottom dollar blues

Are you frikkin' kidding me, @belladonna?

This absolutely, astonishingly perfectly slides like a glove into the template of my 3 all-time favorite minor blues songs--as well as my favorite BiaB style--all of which I listen to multiple times a day while working (I'm a regulatory compliance attorney who works from home).

1. BB King: All Over Again (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEl9KHVvKwY)

2. Gov't Mule: Worried Down with the Blues (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2weiZn7k6lc)

3. Led Zeppelin: Since I've Been Loving You (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KLe2f0GHzQ)

The EXACT, and only Realstyle that fits perfectly (with extra chords for the 5th and 6th stanzas of the verses) is,...well I don't have my drive with me at the very moment, but it's 12/8 Blues, Sw 16ths, at 65 BPM, with the trading solos medley (2 guitars and one piano). I believe it's from a 2012 realpack.

The chords are (if I'm not mistaken) i-iv-V7 with the I-don't recall-at-the-moment additional chords thrown in for the extra two verses referenced above, as well as for the bridge.

Good on you for writing this excellent song!

BTW, I read your earlier post re: where you are in life and your aspirations. From one professional to another, who has ignored their musical dreams in favor of doing what is "responsible," I'm so very impressed and inspired by your drive and talent!

Thanks Deacon Blues and Charlie for your kind words and giving me some direction on writing the lyrics to a blues song. I'm swamped with work right now (CPA in tax season, Boo!) so I'm not having time to really work with the music but I will keep it on the burner for after tax season. I might keep throwing out some lyrics if anyone else wants to work with them. It does help me to see what could be possible as the music part is not my stronger suit. Yeah, sometimes I wear my heart on my sleeve, but I think that helps me be a better lyricist. Realizing life many times needs to be all about balance and responsible is a part of the balance. All my life people have commented about my right brain/left brain balance, being an accountant and running my own business with also a degree in fine arts, doing music, songwriting and being a dancer. But on the down side a "jack of too many creative pursuits" and probably not a master of any but I do have fun.

Those are some excellent lyrics, Belladonna! I'm looking forward to hearing the music put behind them smile For some reason, what comes to my for me is a country tune, or a rock song with a southern twang to it.

Good morning, Ms. Belladonna...

I think your lyrics for "Bottom Dollar Blues" are so "hot" that they have fuses sparkin' an' sizzlin' at either end of them! The raucous, hard-livin' word picture they describe begs for some drivin', fast-pickin' music to heat things up. They inspired me to compose some music for them. If you'd like to hear it, please let me know to where you would like me to e-mail the BIAB file, okay?

Thank you, ma'am!

Sincerely,

LOREN

If you don't mind I've picked out a style and worked out an arrangement in BIAB. With a bit of fortune I hope to record it by the end of the week. What fun!

Wow!!!! Wonderful take on my song lyrics. I love it. I would have never thought to do it that way. It's really great seeing others creativity. Loved your vocals. My husband's favorite music is the big band sound as he used to play alto sax. He thought it was really COOL!!! Thank you so much and really appreciate how you made the lyrics come to life in a big way.
