hello
im having big problems with wmp12
im running win10 home updated from win7
just recently media player has stopped functioning properly ,it takes ages to load and play audio,i checked the microasoft help pages and tried most of the recommended fixes including installing the media feature pack, i havent fixed the problem, i dont have any restore points that go back far enough .
because of this i just use vlc player for playing my general audio stuff.
i have now discovered through pg tech people that my problem with wmp is also causing a problem i am having with biab auditioning audio(it takes for ever)
does anyone have a work around for my problem.
i understand that biab needs wmp to audition files, would it be possible use i.tunes or any other media player
instead of wmp to run with biab,
i could do a clean install of windows but thats the last thing i want to do especially after all the tips/advice given on microsoft help site havent worked.
thanks to any tech people out there who may offer a fix.

Same problems here with windows media player even on windows 7 as regards playing videos. As far as I know Microsoft is trying to kill it off. I use instead, https://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.en-GB.html

Another freebie that I like and use in place of WMP is Media Monkey. It has several features that M$ forgot. www.mediamonkey.comThe free version is all you'll need.

My default audio player is very old school WinAmp, which still works great even though it's been discontinued for many years.

Have you checked that your audio drivers are up to date?
Also, I've noticed on these forums that updating video drivers can often prove useful in solving audio problems.

can biab use videolan to audition styles in the stylepicker window? Not 100% sure on this one, I am of the opinion that it uses media player, which does work fine for me in biab. Though I do have windows 10 on my computer as well as windows 7 (dual boot) most of the time I stick with windows 7, which seems to run better and quieter, probably to do with age of computer which is 8 years old now, though a quad core. The reason I switched to VLC in windows 7 is that over last week or so, media player won't play video files for me, VLC solves that. Do try return to factory settings in biab. from the options menu, has solved many a problem for users in the past.

It will play all audio formats and has a leveling feature that maintains the volume at a near constant level which eliminates the need to ride the volume control. I've been using the free version for about 10 years.

Unless PG Music has substantially changed Band-in-a-Box for 2018 the program does play audio through the Windows Media Player in certain situations. There is no way for a user to redirect BiaB to another player as it's hard coded in the program and difficult to change.
I ran into a similar situation a few years ago and had to delete all traces of Windows Media Player from my computer then go to Microsoft's website and download WMP again.
If you want to hear the chord builder or some other features in BiaB you need WMP.

thats confirmed what i thought.
how did you re download wmp?
ive tried but microsoft site just keeps telling me that wmp comes preloaded with win 10 and there is no links to download wmp.
all the help suggestions tell me to do a clean install of windows which i really dont want to do.

PaulPaul, My experiences are with Windows XP and Windows 7. Windows support lets you download WMP for these two operating systems. +++ THIS +++ page implies Windows Media Player is available after a clean install of Windows 10. However, on the same page it indicates WMP is part of the +++ Media Feature Pack +++My suggestion is to download the Media Feature Package and try to install it. The worst that happens is you wasted some time. I can't try it as I don't have a computer with the Windows 10 operating system.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
