Sirens

fly without wings
wound without claws
song of the sirens
has broken my cause

lashed to the mast
speaking in tongues
tangled in wishes
my will undone

Calliope Terpsichore
maidens of Persephone
cut the rope evermore
to live with you under the sea
Odysseus dies
shipwrecked on a sigh

sing with your eyes
I`ll breathe by your touch
drowning men know this
my ecstasy judge

Calliope Terpsichore
maidens of Persephone
cut the rope evermore
to live with you under the sea
Odysseus dies
shipwrecked on a sigh

You've done a great job with this one. The composing, the arrangement and the performances all work in concert to create a very atmospheric piece of music.

Robert, your singing is excellent and you sound really, really comfortable with this.

Scott, as always, your guitar playing shines.

Robert and Scott I agree with everything that has been said.

Super intro, great backing tracks, super guitar chops and tone and one outstanding vocal.

Two thumbs up.

Of all of the songs in the world, the WHOLE world, that use "Calliope Terpsichore" this one is my favorite! Seriously, those are some amazing lyrics to have to write and put a melody to. Well done!

Cool song in my book! Thanks for sharing it.

Wow - what a tune! I really liked the general sound of this one. It's got an excellent groove and guitar work, and excellent vocals that match it perfectly. It has a haunting feeling to, and I loved how at the chords it picks up in energy. The whole thing is interesting the entire way through, and really drew me in.

You nailed it - thanks for sharing smile

Thank you, Noel.
Atmosphere was the aim, so I`m glad you enjoyed that!
Prior to BiaB I hadn`t sung rock songs outside the living rooms of friends back in the day- I think about those times sometimes when loosening up for these songs.
Scott always seems to understand the feel I`m asking him to interpret on guitar - his parts were so easy to fit into the song.

Thanks Joe. Robert had some cool chord changes in the backtrack and allowed me to do some different things with the guitar melodies

Thank you! I used the Ozone Imager with a delay on the chorus- glad you liked the result.

Having already written the verses, I thought what about singing the lovely creatures names on the chorus. A quick search turned up such gems as Thelxiepia & Aglaopheme...believe me, I chose the easy ones!

Dave,
Thanks very much. I enjoyed letting loose a bit on the vocals and working with Scott is a pleasure... as long as I can keep up because he fires his guitar parts back to me before I can blink!

Hello, Robert and Scott

I think that the amazing atmosphere is so well expressed.
It is not Lorelei but Odyssey.
Your vocals are perfect for this song.
Guitar solo is wonderful. Guitar phrases are really beautiful.
Vocal loops and percussion are also very effective.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

What did you use for the intro, we hear female voices?
Very different, but in a good way.
We also detect some Brian Ferry in your vocal (again).
And of course you can't go wrong with that!
Love Scott's guitar work!

So where's the accompanying light show?

Trippy in a very good sense and anchored by a great write with wonderful playing and vocals. Just the right edge to make me want to listen again to some of the best from '66-68. IMO, there was some really great music during that era that tends to get lost within all the not so good stuff. This sounds to me like a cut from the best of the best.

This is memorable guys. Congratulations. A beat era lyric with a bit of folk/psychedelia backing-- how cool.

Floyd,
I mixed this after reading your DRUMS UP! post, so I hope you heard them.
I enjoy hearing strange names or references in lyrics that make me do a double take... no Greek mythology lesson intended on this one!

The thing that strikes me the most here is the interesting chord choices. Some fine guitar work and vocal supporting an unusual set of lyrics. This is not your everyday type of song but one that challenges the listener to take a journey. I took the ride and enjoyed it! Good collab, Tom

This is a great tune IMO. I love the overall vibe and it's really well mixed.

Super nice lyrical images.

I'm not sure about the Christian speaking in tongues image mixed in with otherwise classical pantheon imagry. But this is a very small thing. It's fine actually. I'm just wondering if you might find a stronger image?

The vocals and guitar work are good and really fit.

Nice job guys,

Ian,

Thank you for your listen and thoughtful comments - I`m especially glad you liked the mix.
I remember thinking that speaking in tongues line could be interpreted as a Christian reference, though it has meaning in many cultures... but then my research was limited to looking at the painting!

David,
I get the Rush reference ( remembering you are a big fan) - this was probably more influenced by the Pete Brown/Jack Bruce Cream songs I still think are right up there.

First time I've heard one of Robert's songs, but well impressed.
Enjoyed it so much that I played it twice.

Thanks for checking out the song. Robert uses some very creative chord patterns and which allows for some interesting opportunities to wind in and around the chorus's and verses with the guitar melody.

It is not Lorelei but Odyssey.
Your vocals are perfect for this song.
Guitar solo is wonderful. Guitar phrases are really beautiful.
Vocal loops and percussion are also very effective.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

Thanks Shigeki Glad you liked the song.

Very different, but in a good way.
We also detect some Brian Ferry in your vocal (again).
And of course you can't go wrong with that!
Love Scott's guitar work!

Rob and Anne-Marie

Thanks Rob and Anne-Marie. There are sure some very cool realtracks in the new BIAB. Robert has become an expert at blending styles and Real Tracks. Makes for some very cool backtracks and lyrics.

Cool and interesting! Loved that rhythm guitar on the right - gives the song a subtle but yet definitive drive. Unusual in so many ways, yet a comfortable feel in my ears. Great song, production and delivery.

The ethereal effect is near mesmerizing - particularly the intro. Scott's guitar work is superb and your vocal fits very nicely in the project. Beyond cool!

Thanks Greg,
There` still a few bands from that era that I missed or dismissed too quickly & really enjoy digging them up for inspiration now.

Bot you conjured some so great memories with the light show. I remember how they use to make the music so much more cooler. Blob lighting, strobes. Those were the days my friends. Glad you liked the song..

Ian

Thanks Ian Glad you liked the song.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
