I know this has been requested before, but it would be very cool if RB was made available to us Mac users. Even a "lite" version would be useful. I have it loaded on my Surface Pro and have played around with it just enough to know that I would find it helpful particularly in the roughing-out early stages of a composition.

I'm very happy with the drag&drop features in Mac BIAB and working in Logic Pro, but having RB on my iMac would give me another compositional tool with additional capabilities. Its tight integration with BIAB is something that's not available in GarageBand, Logic, or any other DAW.

That’s true, RealBand can do things Garage Band cannot. I’ve wondered if BIAB could regenerate sections of a track like RealBand can, would there still be a call for RealBand on the Mac?

Maybe the easier solution would be to implement Rewire, in which case Logic Pro can talk directly to BIAB to generate tracks within Logic. Update the tracks within BIAB and they get updated automatically in the DAW. Just a thought.

As I understand it, there is no RealBand for mac (and there was never a PowerTracks for Mac either, which is what RealBand was based on), so it would require a ground-up coding effort (which may not be a bad thing, but it would definitely end up being version 1.000). I would think that implementing Rewire would an easier solution (he said without having a clue what it would take to do so, although lots of other audio programs seem to have no problem implementing it).

I'm not sure, Matt. I've only barely scratched the surface of RB. In all honesty, my guess is that there will never be a RB developed for Mac and I certainly do not want to beat a dead horse. But since this is a wishlist....

Yes, that could be an interesting option, John. I agree that rewire implementation would probably be simpler than recoding RB.

John, correct, no RealBand for Mac. +1 for Rewire support.

Guitarist, since you are comfortable with a DAW, what is it in RealBand that would help you, besides the ability to regenerate part of a track as I mentioned?

ps, I can't believe the new (in 2000) forum software made it three years before someone registered the username of "Guitarist".

The multiriff feature would be something that I would really use a lot, I think. It would be like laying down several guitar solo takes and then comping them, taking parts from each take to create the finished solo. Only in this case, of course, it would be a RealTrack. I've done this to some extent by generating different RT "takes" and importing them into Logic where I then dice & splice. But having the ability to do this before I even get to Logic would be much more efficient.

Otherwise, the overall integration between RB & BIAB is impressive. Like opening BIAB files directly in RB.

I wouldn't want to see BIAB get bloated with too many more features, but if the multiriff feature could be incorporated into BIAB, along with Rewire support, I would be happy.

Ron

p.s. Re: my user name...most people fail to notice the middle "t." It's "Guitartist," not "Guitarist." I'm a guitar player and an artist. Guit + artist. That's why I'm holding paint brushes in my profile pic. smile

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
