Hey Gang!

So, I think I've got it right this time. A bit fuller, softer, and more moving. It makes me want to sit by the fireplace with a blankie and a cup of hot chocolate! =D

If you've got a minute to relax, give it a listen!

Thanks again for all your support,

Dave

Well done, Dave - you capture the winter feeling perfectly here. It has a chilling and calm feel to it. I would imagine this sound fantastic as part of a movie soundtrack. It definitely had a cinematic sort of atmosphere going on. Plus the way you mixed all the instruments together here really adds to that effect.

Great work, and thanks for sharing smile

Hi Deryk;

Thanks you for your comments. I agree that this song has a cinematic feel. I might put together some slides of winter scenes and post it on YouTube.

Thanks for the idea!

Dave

Interesting. I listened, then thought to post something along the lines of how I felt the track lended itself to work as a movie soundtrack. (I have been working with video lately, so I'm natrurally thinking that way. Not really surprised, then, reading through the comments, others noticed the same thing.
You could have a lot of fun mixing in winter photography and other themes. Did you know you can go to Wikimedia commons and screen capture great photos to your heart's content? The software, screen cap and video edit, is already in your Mac or PC system. (Hint: size all the pictures to 854 X 480 for consistency. 854 and as close to 480 as possible.)

Very Nice Dave,

The mix needs a bit of work IMO. The biggest problem is that one of the solo strings distorts near the end of the tune. You may need to play around with the individual levels and overall volume.

You can hear some reverb tails getting cut short on the piano, or maybe the strings. BIAB seems to do this with some ambient sounds. You might lessen this effect by adding extra reverb to whichever sound is doing this.

I enjoyed listening to your tune.

Peace,

Ian

Sure thing, Dave...you are more than welcome.
If you were to add a video track, most likely of winter
scenes, and then overdub a narration, you could time
in in such as way as to vary the audio level, adding
more dynamics than you already have; it's done all the
time.
Here is a list of PD poetry that would fit. Robert Frost
was captivated by winter in the country.

This is just beautiful. Super string leads. Outstanding chord progression.

This is really good.

Two thumbs up.

Hi Ian!

Nice to meet you! Yes there are a few violin "plunks" that are driving me nuts. so, I attempted to lessen their exposure. If you listen to my most recent (today) I've gotten rid of most of them. the few minor ones I left alone to give the string attack authenticity.

Thanks for your good ear. If you have a moment I'd appreciate you giving it another try. Opinions greatly appreciated!!!

All the best,
Dave

Hi Ed!

I decided to follow your advice and make a video of "Winter's Song." It's now complete and ready to post. Since I'm new to this, I'm trying to make it to YouTube, wish me luck!

I also did a final mix on "Winter's Song" to make it sound more like a soundtrack. I was finally able to clean up the violin track's plunk anomalies that were driving me nuts. I also balanced out the volumes on the piano and pads. It now sounds like some European mix professional got a hold of it!!! =D

Thanks again for your inspiration,

All the best,
Dave

Zup "Mr. Rich???"

I hope you are good. Thanks for your kind comments. I recently re-mixed the entire song because there were some violin anomalies that were driving me nuts. So, I decided to make it sound more like a soundtrack and "mellowed" everything out.

I also created a video of stills depicting the scenes of Winter, now on Youtube.com. I hope you enjoy!

Thanks again,
Dave

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
