Well it's February which means it's time to FAWM. I'll post all my songs that I use BIAB on here as not to clog up the forum. I already have one completed and another which should be done late tonight. So without further ado... my first FAWM song of 2018.

Down To The Ocean

RealTracks:
1137: Bass, Acoustic-Guitar, Folk Swing
976: Guitar, Electric, Rhythm Country Swing Clean Stum
1143: Ukulele, Stumming Folk Swing
825: Guitar, Acoustic, Stumming Country Waltz
1283: Guitar, Electric, Soloist Country Shuffle Brent
Real Drums: Nashville Swing

Lyrics:

Well I’ve been working way too hard
I sure could use a break.
I hear that Florida is nice this time of year
It might be time to get away.

Take me down to the ocean
Put my feet in the sand
Let me feel that warm breeze blow
And put a stiff drink in my hand

They say the weather is always hot
And the Margaritas are ice cold
I’ve heard the water can keep you young
And the salty Breeze can free your soul

So take me down to the ocean
Put my feet in the sand
Let me feel that warm breeze blow
And put a stiff drink in my hand

Nice toe tapping song. Yes, reminds me of Jimmy Buffet.

Great work on this, Samuel smile I loved the folky vibes here, and the gentle swaying groove throughout it. It’s definitely hard not to tap your foot along. The arrangement here is also top notch. I wouldn’t bat an eyelash hearing this on the radio.

Thanks so much for sharing!

This is cool man! I don't understand how you guys do this!

I get the writing to spec thing, but if some came up to me and said "Hey you gotta write an album this week or this month!" I would not be able to do it!! I would freeze!!

smile

I sort of end up doing it by accident, anyway, but I couldn't do it "under command"--so I am very impressed by people who can do it and have that sort of discipline.

Good job so far. Can't wait to hear more!

Thanks David. It's not that anyone says you have to write an album. It's more of a personal challenge to push yourself and try to write 14 new songs in a month. Some people do try to write a cohesive album but most people including myself just write for the fun of it.

FAWM SONG #2

When Tomorrow Comes

I wrote this song from a sailor's point of view. To satisfy his soul he must leave and sail the high seas, but he does not want to hurt the woman that he has been with while in port. He tries to comfort her on their last night together and tells her that even though he is leaving he will remember her. It's sort of a bitter sweet love song.

I traded out my usual guitar solo section for a little sax in this song. It just felt right. I think it gives the song a bit of a Bob Seeger/Chicago feel.

RealTracks:
683: Bass, Electric, Pop Half Notes Push
1564: Piano, Acoustic, Rhythm Island John
1524: Guitar, Electric, Rhythm Power Pop Push Clean
1607: Guitar, Electric,Rhythm Pop 16ths Gritty
405: Guitar, Acoustic, Strumming
1062: Sax, Tenor Soloist Smooth Jazz Cool
Real Drums: Nashville Even 16

Lyrics:

When tomorrow comes
With tomorrow’s sun
I will you remember you
When tomorrow comes?
For I’ll be gone when tomorrow comes.

Sailing on a ship has been my life
I’ve never been the kind to take a wife
Riding wave on wave to distant shores
Never satisfied always wanting more
I am the captain of this fair ship
I’ve just been resting in this slip

You’ve been good to me better than most
But my heart it longs for shores on a distant coast
I must ride the waves where they may go
And follow the stars to where they show
Darling please don’t cry. we’ve had our fun
Now I must leave when tomorrow comes

When tomorrow comes
With tomorrow’s sun
I will you remember you
When tomorrow comes?
For I’ll be gone when tomorrow comes.

Now lay your head on me just one last time
My darling close your eyes and I’ll close mine
Dream sweet dreams my dear all through the night
Snuggle close to me and I’ll hold you tight
I’ll try not to wake you when morning comes.
But I’ll be gone woth the morning sun

When tomorrow comes
With tomorrow’s sun
I will you remember you
When tomorrow comes?
For I'll be gone when tomorrow comes.

When tomorrow comes
When tomorrow comes

FAWM SONG #3

Spicy

This was a quick write for the Week 1 Challenge in FAWM, to write a song without a chorus. I decided to try something a little different with this one and spice things up with some Latin flavor.

This was a quick write and just a rough demo. I think if I decided to actually use this song for something I would change the key to better fit my vocal range.

RealTracks:
1958: Bass, Baby, Guajira
2292: Horn Section, Rhythm Pop
1960: Tres, Rhythm Guajira
1177: Guitar, High-Strung Acoustic, Rhythm, Pop Calypso
583: Guitar, Electric, Solo Blues Roadhouse
Loop: Chillout\Chillout - light_74_drum_loop_b_minor
Real Drums: Salsa Guajira

Lyrics:

Pour me a drink. I don’t want nothing sweet.
Better make it something with a little bit of heat.
A bloody Mary, extra Tabasco would be neat.
I like it spicy.

Your looking thirsty. Lets do us a shot.
How about some fire whiskey? Put it on the rocks.
Make it a double cause I really like it hot.
I like it spicy.

Lets grab a bite to eat there’s a cart out by the street.
They’ve got tacos with 3 different kinds of meat.
I like mine with jalapenos for a little extra heat.
I like it spicy.

How about some dancing honey? Show me to the floor.
Tell the band to play a tango. Make it three or four or more.
We’ll dance all night until our feet start to get soar.
And get spicy.

At 3 o’clock the bar will finally kick us out.
Don’t worry honey. No there ain’t no need to pout.
We can have some more fun when we get back to the house.
And get spicy.

When we get home you can take your red dress off
Climb into bed where the sheets are nice and soft.
Lay back, relax while I go down and get you off.
We’ll get spicy.

Sam,

I'm listening to song #2 as I type this.

I find it amazing, incredible even, that you can create a nearly six minutes, finished song in the space of a couple of days. And you've done it really, really well, too. I'm enjoying the journey.

All the best with FAWM!

Noel

Listened to 1 and 2.

You FAWM folks never cease to amaze. If I squeeze out one a month I feel like I'm on a roll.

The quality of these sound like a LOT more time was put into them. Amazing.

Thanks Janice, Bud and Noel. I know for me at other times of the year I may only do 2 or 3 songs a month, but when I really sit down in February and consciously put in the effort to do 14 songs I just get on a roll. Ive actually set a high personal goal for myself this year of 21 songs. Ive got lyrics for my 4th song already written. If things keep up like they are now I think I'll make it.

FAWM Song #4

All My Love

I wrote the lyrics for this song on Saturday afternoon for what is called a Skirmish. A skirmish is where you are given a prompt and have 1 hour to write a song to that prompt. I only had about a half hour before I had to leave for a gig so I only got the lyrics done then. I went back today and did the demo using BIAB and came up with this little country ballad.

RealTracks:
366: Bass, Electric Country
365: Guitar, Acoustic, Fingerpicking
362: Guitar, Acoustic, Stumming
1756: Pedal Steel, Rhythm Pop 8ths
Real Drums = Nashville Even 8

Lyrics:
I love it when I say your name
The way it rolls right off my young
And the way you look at me brightens my life
It makes me feel so young.

Your always there in times of need
You are the rock that keeps me strong.
Always by my side to see me through
Even when you know I’m wrong.

I give you all my heart
All my love
All my love, I give it all to you
I give you all my heart
All my love
Oh my darling, my heart belongs to you

I’m so happy that I found you
Your love competes my life.
And I’m so thankful that you love me too
I love calling you my wife.

I can see us in 30 years
When our hair is turning grey.
I’ll still love you just as much
As I love you here today.

I give you all my heart
All my love
All my love, I give it all to you
I give you all my heart
All my love
Oh my darling, my heart belongs to you.

FAWM Song #5

Listen

This song is a collaboration with @kahlo2013. She wrote some lovely lyrics that touched me and let me put them to music. I wanted to keep it simple and found an acoustic trio RealTrack on Band in a Box that just seems to fit perfectly.

RealTracks:
2483: Bass, Acoustic, Bowed Held Simple
2195: Piano, Electric Vintage, Rhythm Cool Jazz Pop Held
2914: Guitar, Acoustic, Fingerpicking Folky 16ths Brent

Lyrics:
V1
listen to the wind
as it whispers stories
listen to the fire
as it sparks dreams
listen to your soul
as it asks questions
listen to the music
as it brings harmony

C
listen and be open
be open to be free
be free to be open
listen to be

listen and be present
be present to be free
be free to be present
listen to be

V2
listen to the sea
as it carries answers
listen to the silence
as it speaks the truth
listen to your heart
as it shares compassion
listen to the storm
as it teaches you

C
listen and be open
be open to be free
be free to be open
listen to be

listen and be present
be present to be free
be free to be present
listen to be

Samuel, I believe this is your best to date. Super choice for the RTs as they fit the song perfectly. Very nice chord progression.

Great collaboration!

Two thumbs up.

I haven't been on the forums much lately because of real life and participating in FAWM. Instead of posting my songs her I'm just going to leave a link to my FAWM page where you can listen to all of the songs I've been creating with BIAB. Anything that I really like I will post as a separate thread here for everyone to listen to and comment. Thanks everyone for your comments and support.
