I was disappointed when the original news was announced, but I always hoped that someone would shine a light.

Let's hope the battery doesn't go flat.

I've been using cakewalk for years, started off with PS 8. On sonar X2 now. Why stop using if the company folds ? If you like using the programme, keep using it.

In my case, I love Master Tracks Pro (MIDI sequencer). It loads quickly, saves instantly, has great editing features, and without audio added on there are no sub menus and sub-sub menus so I spend much more time with my hands on the musical instrument and much less time with my hands on the computer keyboard.

I've been using MTPro since I had an Atari ST and a Motorola CPU Mac. Later when they went with a Win 3.1 version I added the PC.

Unfortunately it was orphaned in the XP days, and continued to work up until Win 8. With Win 10 it no longer works.

If Cakewalk doesn't get a new home and/or if the new home doesn't keep updating it, there may be a time when Cakewalk will no longer work with a future OS update.

I'm still running it on an old XP computer. When I get done working with the MIDI, if I want to add audio, I just port the MIDI file over to a newer computer.

Even in compatibility mode? Do you get any kind of error message? Perhaps the Windows 10 sound handling changes?

I am using the new 1040XTRAEZ form this year. It has just 2 lines.

1. How much did you make in 2023?
2. Send it to us.

Thanks for link (I'm drowning in searches & links for half a dozen other topics so current events on SONAR & Gibson are not in my current AOR)

Quick skim however, mentioned two folks "joining the new team," one of which is the REASON I left a year and a half ago (no names).

So very unlikely I'm moving back to SONAR, or whatever re-branded name they come up with, unless the new tech management lays down some better "how to deploy and implement" rules at a minimum.

Well with all the idea of Sonar not being around I decided to have a look at Reaper and have found some things are indeed easier to perform in Reaper (e.g. Slicing and pasteing audio). I think I have found several reasons to keep and use both but I doubt I'll be spending as much trying to keep Sonar current. With ReaCWP Reaper has the ability to open Sonar projects, whilst not perfect it is ok for my purposes.

Welcome to the Reaper side. Many of us here like it also. It doesn't replace PGMusic but is a nice tool to have in the tool box.

After a little time you may find another Theme helps your workflow even more.
I've found some themes cause me to use an entirely different workflow, which is interesting, though I am still experimenting and finding what themes I like for different things.

I feel each product has its own area that makes the total more complete. BAIB is really great for designing music and getting ideas etc. RealBand is great as a next step in editing then move onto another DAW to chop, channel, slice and mix the stuff one has generated. Then get the mix and final bits done. I think working across platforms and getting the best out of each is the easier way to go.

Just my thoughts

I tried that. It worked in the XP mode in Win 8.

I have an old pre win95 8dot3 filename copy that will not install at all. I have a copy from about 2004 (which I think was their last attempt) that installed, worked in Win8 but won't open in Win10. I've tried this, the troubleshooter tells me to use the XP service pack 3 mode, testing does nothing, changing versions of Win doesn't help either.

I have a feeling that when GVox bought the rights to the from Microsoft, after MS bought it from Passport Designs to use the technology in Power Point, GVox cobbled something together and took some short-cuts in programming that don't work anymore (just a guess from remarks in the MTPro forum - which is now about as dead as the app).

Life moves on, I'm happy with it on the XP computers, and this summer when the work is slow, I plan on trying Cubase to see if that is a valid alternative. Like I said, I don't mind learning a new way of doing things, I just hate to take the time to learn it if it isn't going to work for me. My best guess so far from others is that either Cakewalk or Cubase have the best MIDI editing functions (better than Pro Tools) and since Cakewalk's future is insecure, that makes Cubase the best candidate.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
