I have had 3 hard drives crash over the last 2 years. I lost quite a few of my masters (even though I had backups - one of the drives that crashed was my backup drive). HUGE nightmare! This song is one that I wrote almost 7 years ago, and has been one of my favorites, so I decided to redo it. It's a song about the value of spending time with the ones we love. I hope you enjoy it!

A Night Like This
© Stephen W. Young

Bright stars shining in the sky tonight
There doesn't seem to be a cloud in sight
There's a big moon smiling on your car going down the road
All the trees are swaying to the sound of the radio
A little country, a little rock n roll
The kids are sitting in the backseat smiling as they hear you sing
And on a night like this you can do anything
Yeah on a night like this you can do anything

You haven't seen your mom in it's been too long
Your daddy's getting older but he's still having fun
There's a big apple pie on the table in the dining room
There'll be deep discussions of trivial stuff
The wisdom in this house is more than enough
The kids are dancing in the front room, laughing as they hear you sing
And on a night like this you can do anything
Yeah on a night like this you can do anything

Now the food is ready and it smells so good
You know you'll probably eat more than you should
The people you love gather round the table in the dining room
As you join hands to give thanks it feels so right
But this is nothing special, it's just another night
The kids are sitting at the table smiling as they hear you pray
And on a night like this you can do anything
Yeah on a night like this you can do anything

And with a life like this you can do anything

Steve,

This is super!

I love the introduction. You grabbed hold of me and pulled me headlong into the song. There was no going back after that. I didn't even realise that my feet were tapping until about halfway through!

As always, for me, your signature is your arrangement skills.... professional, professional, professional! You really are like a Cordon Bleu master chef... a dollup of this, a pinch of that, a twist of something that surprises and the result is a formidable delight in every way; write, vocals, instrumentals, mix... I really enjoyed the listen!

Ok... now I'm heading over to Vimeo to watch the video.

All the best from your friend underneath the equator smile

Nice!

Love the way you handled the vocals, especially the "night like this" parts, and the background part during the "The kids are sitting at the table smiling as they hear you pray" line.

Lots of great lines, a couple that stand out for me: "There's a big moon smiling on your car going down the road" and "There'll be deep discussions of trivial stuff, The wisdom in this house is more than enough"

Good listen!

Great job on this, Steve! It has a great groove, and is wonderfully catchy. Your vocal performance here is seriously on point too. It has a very happy vibe to it, and I found it a nice peaceful easy listen.

Really well done, and thanks for sharing!

The word that comes to mind is “joyous.”

The lyric is packed with vignettes of joy. And that lyric is joyously sung with a feeling of sincerity that immediately engaged us.

You and Noel bring always to this forum messages of positivity that so often seem to be missing in today’s environment.

We’re glad you revisited the song and thanks for sharing this fine production.

I could have sworn I'd heard this before... But without the bluegrass elements, which were a pleasant surprise.

As usual, great lyrics sung well in a stellar arrangement.

Steve, everything you post always has a great mix and performance and this is no different! Very nice tune (for some reason had me thinking of that 70’s band Toby Beau). Pro in every way! Thanks, Torrey

Harddrive crashes are so scary! I do a lot of digital paintings, and when I lost my harddrive and my external back up at the same time I just about cried from frustrations. Years of work gone. Seems you know the feeling!

Glad it didn't stop you from creating. This song is really lovely, and glad that you re-made it to share with us here.

Thanks for sharing this awesome tune. I can totally hear it playing in the car on a long drive, the whole family listening and smiling and singing along.

Keep it up.

This is a really great listen. Loved the lyrics and the message. The production is also great, you could definitely hear this song on the radio. I especially liked the slight change of pace in the outro...very cool.

Steve you always have a way to make me smile. This is another winner from you. Everything that I wanted to say has already been said.

This song is a keeper.

On a side note here is the way I do backups. I have three backups, two here and one in my safe deposit box. I stagger my HD purchases so hopefully they all will not crash at once. I always try to purchase HDs that have the longest guaranty, although I know that is no guaranty they will last that long. But I have had very good luck with them. YMMV

This song is a keeper.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

Hello, Steve

Very pop and catchy tune!
Your relaxed vocal is really comfortable.
Your invention on arrangement (continued Tonic bass pedal note for 3 bars) is very effective.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Harddrive crashes are HUGE nightmare!
But your effort is wonderful.
Congratulations on completing the reproduction.
I imagine that it is surely finished in a more splendid work than before.

Best regards.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
