Dear BIAB team,
Style maker is a great tool, with the ability to import a midi and transform it into style, the possibilities become endless.

Which brings me to a similar tool but more simple and more immediate, to take advantage of the transposition capacity that offers Biab, as would an arpeggiator or a hardware arranger, the ability to create a custom bass line, riff or piano track for accompaniment.

Example: Right click on the bass track, create custom phrase, then open the piano roll with one or more bars and the basic key in C major. We then enter the few notes that will constitute our custom phrase in C and we save it as custom midi file, we can then import it with the existing command "Select Custom MIDI Style for this track", but with the possibility of Browse and open this newly created file.

massichat,

I'm not sure if you're aware but, from a midi perspective, Stylemaker already allows a user the ability to create custom riffs in any track and these riffs are then transposed and mapped to various chords.

To do this, within Stylemaker there is a music notation editor.

Regards,
Noel

Noel96,

Thank you, yes I actually have seen that, apart from the fact that I find it very complicated (I have not managed to change any note ^ ^), I have not seen any possibility of inserting notes in the piano roll directly as in a DAW, nor the possibility to focus only on the sentence we want to edit, it is very technical and requires knowledge in theory, and it is more oriented on the style in general and at first glance require a high learning curve of StyleMaker.

I'd like something intuitive, or at least the ability to import a riff in a midi format, previously created in any other DAW.
If you see another method that does not require knowledge in theory, or at worst a tutorial that focuses on creating a Phrase from scratch, I'd love to learn it.

Hi Massichat. I also have no "knowledge in theory," and avoided any edit of styles for a long time. But after trying and exploring the style editor a little bit, I found it easy and comprehensive...

From what I understand u want to do, u can do it in two ways;

1.Make any bassriff in the melody/soloist track. Export it as a midi file. Then go to "File/Stylemaker/Stylewizard, and import the riff u want. Just assign the track u just made to the basstrack.

2. Open any midi style that have a basstrack u like, and open "File/Stylemaker/Edit current style"
There u click on the bass track, then on the note icon to the right of the red record button. This will open the note view windows. Here u just click on the "Edit note" box at the top left, to the right of the print box. There is 3 boxes there. Use the one in the middle. Now u can edit or insert any notes directly with the mouse. If u just want to edit the existing notes, click on the boxes in the main windows that has a number in it.(Usually number 5) and the notes will be visible. If u want to add a riff, click on an empty box. That will take u to a blank part of the note windows and u can insert any notes there to make the riff u want... Then insert a number from 1-9 in the box. Low number, will play it seldom. High number will play it often...

Hope this helps...;)

Hi Trygve Larsen!

Thank you very much for your clear explanation, your first tip is perfectly what I want to do, I did not think it was possible.

The second seems to be even more effective, so I'm going to memorize it and test it when I would have achieved a little more ease than you with the StyleMaker.

Have a good day smile

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
