I'm thinking of moving to the Mac version of BIAB when I upgrade my computer A 27" IMac looks better to me than a new Windows machine upgrade.

I did not upgrade to BIAB 2018 because I am fed up with a 32 bit product. I started a 64 bit wishlist request in 2012. I thought I could switch to the MAC version of 2017 and my huge Realtrack and Realdrums database could be copied over from wav to aiff. Wrong - I have to buy them all again according to PG. There is no installer to choose a Win or Mac installation.

If I buy from Native Instruments, Steinberg, Ableton, Spectrasonics or lots of other companies in this music field I buy a product and an able to install 32 bit or 64 bit or Windows or Mac. And sound libraries are automatically converted to wav or aiff.

I could put a Win partition on the Mac but for only one product?

Just do a crossgrade to get the Mac app only then use your RealTrack and RealDrums wav files with it, no need to convert to aiff.
To play the style, realtrack and realdrum wma demo files you just set the Mac's default media player to one that is compatible with wma files like MPlayerX or VLC or batch convert the wma to m4a.

Pipeline: I have both the Win Audiophile and Mac Non-Audiophile versions of BIAB. Are you saying I can use the Win Audiophile wav files with the Mac BIAB, such that buying the Audiophile version of Mac BIAB would be pointless if I already have the Win Audiophile?

Yes pointless buying what you already have.
You only need the Mac app only if you have the Win Audiophile.
You can also convert the wma to wav or m4a if you only have the Win wma version.

You can plug the Win Audiophile drive into Mac: http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=426743#Post426743

Make sure you use VLC or Media PlayerX as the default player on Mac to play the RealTrack/Drums and styles demos that are in wma format or convert them to m4a with http://www.nch.com.au/switch/index.html

X:\bb\RealTracks\Data
*X:\bb\MIDI SuperTracks - Demos
*X:\bb\RealTracks - Demos (if you are running the main app from the OS drive then convert that folder in /Applications/Band-in-a-Box/RealTracks - Demos).

*2018 has these folders in the X:\bb\Demos

This way the Audiophile drive will work on both Win or Mac.
Mac will need NTFS write enabled to write to the drive, you only need this to create usertracks or loops as it needs to create the .bt1 beat files.

I worry Bob that you fail to understand my point. It is quite clear.

But historically you have struggled with my posts during the last 8+ years.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
