- FAQ and posting information for the Tips and Tricks section

- The Tips and Tricks section is a forum on the PG Music site for users to post 'tips or tricks' that other users might find helpful.

Some examples:

- you've found out a fun way to use Band-in-a-Box to help you with learing to improvise. Make a post describing what you do, and how it helps you.
- you've discovered that one of the RealTracks has a good guitar part, and displays in notation, and can be used to teach you a certain guitar style. Let's hear about it!
- You've discovered a style that can be used in different ways than intended. Perhaps you've added a flute solo, and it makes the style sound much different. Tell us the details!
- You've made some 'youtube' video tutorials on how-to-use Band-in-a-Box or RealBand. Post the details, so others can watch them!

Please note: Posts that are not tips-and-tricks (for example posts with questions on using the program) should be posted in the general forum for Band-in-a-Box or RealBand, and will be moved there if posted here.

Have Fun!

Peter- thanks for understanding when I posted my whole video thing in the wrong forum. It seemed right in the beginning, but it became obvious it wasn't as it went along. I would have understood if you moved it. Here on in I'll use this forum for future vids. I have a new series in mind- cheking out RB plugins on tracks. I'll be sure to launch the series right here in this appropriate forum!

They must be scared of you; I made one video and they moved it right away!

OK, they PM'd me and said politely they would like to move it to the right forum, but still!

I'd appreciate seeing the questions in the Tips section get moved to where they belong. It'll take a little effort from staff, but it would improve the forum.

Thanks Peter

Hey Dan,
I've watched your user videos, and thoroughly enjoyed them--and learned quite a few things. Somehow, I got to this spot where I can listened to some of your tunes made the same way. I haven't listened to all of them yet, but Heart of Gold really hit's home. It's a wonderful country song! You have alot of heart yourself, the best thing a musician can have. Bless you, my friend. Just keep at it, one of these days, you'll be where you want to be. (If you're not already there.) Please make more great videos for us BBers to enjoy.
Sincerely,
Griff

I wonder if renaming the forum "Users can post helpful tips here" would help? Based on the forum title I can see where someone would post here LOOKING for a tip or a trick.

I smashed the hell out of my car today. When the cops came I told him "Officer, that guy was BOTH texting and drinking a beer." The cop said "Sir, he has every right to do that. I mean, it's HIS living room..."

Hi I have found out how to change settings on the BIAB program and some keyboards so that the chords from
BIAB control the keyboard, but the keyboard can use all of its styles, voices, multi pads, break button and many other effects. This can be done live while the song is being played.

I promise fantastic results. See the tutorial at--- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7vucwldHvU

Hope you check it out.

Hi Rocco,
Used your method(outputting chords to arranger k/brd). Works beautifully,
BUT the keyboard (say like a Yamaha PSRxxx)then plays its idea of a bass
pattern-- I gotta tell you this ruins the tune for a real time bass player.

I've built on your idea,BUT to use the endlessly capability of BIAB to
produce pleasing, and SPECIFIC lines for each tune.(All blues,Time is tite etc).

On my PSR you can assign all BIAB parts to PSR parts as incoming midi.
Then you START(sync on) just the drums. [No need for left hand split].
You can now control tempo & pitch from QWERTY, and which voice(s) for each
part on the keyboard, apply DSP,EQ,and save as registration buttons. Bonus
is U can splat the arranger drum fills randomly, rather than at fixed bars.

I hope you're your still about for this six year old reply. You can have my
URL anytime or any demos etc.
Regardo,
jonW

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
