People have been asking how to get inspiration for a song. I say use the title of the style. I saw this style and I asked myself, what should I call this song? Then I asked myself, "What would Callie do?" Then I had it! Comets! Use the style name! What should it be about? Hmmmmmmm. Hey, comets!!!!

BTW, anyone who has been following me on soundcloud needs to follow me at the link below because I ran out of space on Soundcloud (again) and had to start over.

Comets
By David Snyder

V1

Comets shoot across the atmosphere
Comets shoot across my brain
Ever since they took the light away
Just hasn’t been the same

CH:

When the world explodes
Are we the only ones who know it, or see it
When the world explodes
Are we the only ones who hear it, or get it

V2

Comets shoot across my deepest fears
Comets bursting into flames
I’m out of love with nearly everything
You know this traffic is insane

CH

When the world explodes
Are we the only ones who know it, or see it
When the world explodes
Are we the only ones who hear it, or get it
When the world explodes
Are we supposed to just forget it
Are we supposed to just forget it

Bridge:

Look us around us baby tell me what you see
Is this what we always dreamed about
Look around us baby tell me what you need
Any wonder why we’re full of rage and doubt

CH

When the world explodes
Are we the only ones who know it, or see it
When the world explodes
Are we the only ones who hear it, or get it
When the world explodes
Are we supposed to just forget it
Are we supposed to just forget it

David, you had me from the starting measure.

The backing tracks are fantastic, your vocals are outstanding. Those background singers fit perfectly.

This is your best to date IMHO.

Hi David,

This one seems more controlled, well, beautifully done and perfectly under control.
Great lyric too.
Thumbs up.

Cheers.

Excellent!

Man, that vocal! Especially during the chorus, very emotive.

One of your best I think, David.

Wow - what a tune, David! You outdid yourself here. There is so much emotion to this tune - particularly in the chorus when you hit those falsetto notes. It makes it hit even more harder emotionally, and it gives it a raw sincerity. Really, really well done. Sounds incredibly well produced as well.

Not a thing I'd change here - thanks so much for sharing smile

Deryk

Wow, you ran out of sound on soundcloud? Haha, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. You put out a lot of great work. This song is no exception, and it's cool to have an insight in to how you name your songs. I feel like Comet is an appropriate name for this song.

Thanks for sharing!

Cheers,
Ember

Davud...

A little Bowie, a little Lennon, a little Neil Young. A whole bunch of that Snyder boy...

A song about rage and doubt that is so beautiful you don't hear that - only think of it later... that is impressive...

Such a nice production. And a good mix. Cool vocals.

Nice.

Is this what songwriters do instead of arguing about music theory? wink

Excellent vocal performance and emoting.

Love the sustained piano at the end.

Ya' nailed it. smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

David, I really like what you did with all those beautiful chord changes and melody in this one! The falsetto vocal part absolutely makes the song along with what sounded like some subtle steel parts! One of my favorites of yours up to this point! Thanks, Torrey

Excellent work David - writing & production are ace. The vocal performance is a nice, soulish version of Tom Petty meets Dylan.
The only nit I could pick is that there's a fair bit of sibilant essing.
I don't know if it's mic technique, the effects of the reverb or something else but it is easily treated in most DAWs.
Excellent work.

Cheers

As fj said "A little Bowie, a little Lennon, a little Neil Young. A whole bunch of that Snyder boy..." Yep.

as Deryk said " There is so much emotion to this tune - particularly in the chorus when you hit those falsetto notes. It makes it hit even more harder emotionally, and it gives it a raw sincerity." Yep.

Bleak, bleak and more bleak but assuredly well done in all aspects. Fortunately as I type I'm looking out a window into our homestead forest that is filled with lovely spring blooms of many varieties. That helps smile

Carry on....
