Which plug-in could I use for midi guitar sounds, and also maybe bass?

Have you tried the included Amplitube for guitar?
There are many other guitar amp sims out there also.

For bass, maybe Helian 2nd bass(?)

I agree with Robert. Try the included Amplitube. It is my go-to amp sim. Note I purchased the latest Amplitube.

If you want to try others google/bin free amp sims and you will find quite a few. As always be aware of the risks of free software, but I did DL a couple of those free ones and they were not only malware free but they were very good.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

midi, meaning you are using keyboard for guitar sounds? or, are you just wanting to plug your guitar in and use amp sims? Amplitube, Revalver, are my favs on computer, I also use ipad apps, for this.

I use Dimension Pro but Sforzando comes with BIAB and read sfz files which is essentially what Dimension Pro does. There are many free guitar and bass sfz files about on the Web. It is really simple to load them into Sforzando and apply that to the midi track. Then to make the sound even more realistic use an amp sim (eg Amplitube which comes with BIAB) to enhance the sfz (if required). I use either TH2 or 3 on other tracks Guitar Rig as different sims produce different results. Remember that guitarists do not hit every note with the same strength so adjust the midi velocities to replicate the subtle differences in strength.

My thoughts

Tony

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
