I have a couple of questions about ultrapak 2018. I have to re-install my operating system. If I decide not to re-install BIAB on my computer and instead use the usb drive I assume I would have to check for updates from the usb drive in order to keep BIAB up to date. Is this correct?
I could also create a file folder in the c drive for copies of my seq, sgu and mgu files in case the drive crashes.
Lastly if the usb drive becomes defective will I be able to replace it or downoald BIAB at no charge?

1: When you properly install the program you are given a choice of where the program and specific files should reside. If there are updates, the update installer will be able to identify where your installation is located and automatically update the required files at that location accordingly.
2: Yes, you can store your own BiaB song files at any location you prefer.
3: Only PG Music can advise on that. We are just end-users, like you. You should be able to download any replacement files that you have a valid PG Music license for. The product suppliers will be the definitive authority.

One thing to remember is the USB drive is "temporary storage". Windows may reassign a different drive letter than what the USB drive was first assigned. This often happens if you plug the USB drive into different USB ports but can also happen even though you connect the USB drive into the same USB port every time.
Windows allows you to permanently assign a drive letter to a USB device. Here's how to do it in Windows 10:
1) Ensure that the drive you're relettering isn't in use and that no files from that drive are open. 2) Right-click on the Start button. 3) Click Disk Management to open the Disk Management console. 4) Right-click the volume that has the drive letter you want to change. 5) Click Change Drive Letter And Paths. 6) Click the Change button. 7) Choose from a list of available drive letters. (Don't use A or B, which have historically been reserved for floppy drives and can sometime confuse older software.) 8) Click OK. 9) Click Yes if a popup windows appears asking if you really want to do this. 10) Close the Disk Management console.

Hi Rich,
The hard drives are covered by a one-year warranty, so if it fails within that year, we'll replace it for free. If it fails after a year, or if it stops working because it was dropped or not ejected before disconnecting, we'll replace it for the cost of the drive ($50) plus shipping, or you can download the software for free.
Though lots of users choose to run Band-in-a-Box directly from the UltraPAK hard drive, if you have enough space to install Band-in-a-Box to your internal drive, or another hard drive, I'd highly recommend doing that instead, so nothing happens to the original.
Add updated printing options, enhanced tracks settings, smoother use of MGU and SGU (BB files) within PowerTracks, and more with the latest PowerTracks Pro Audio 2024 update!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows® Today!
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows for free with build 1111!
With this update, there's more control when saving images from the Print Preview window, we've added defaults to the MultiPicker for sorting and font size, updated printing options, updated RealTracks and other content, and addressed user-reported issues with the StylePicker, MIDI Soloists, key signature changes, and more!
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
