just thought some here would find his thoughts on this topic "interesting."

BUT warning if your are of the new-age-easily-offended-by language (or time of day, day of week, words in dictionary, type of dog owned, think a rain drop is a micro-aggression) THEN DO NOT CLICK ON THE LINK it's Jimmy Bruno and he is not for the timid

I didn’t realize that being offended by certain language was new age. I’ll have to let my 97 year old mother-in-law know how trendy she is smile

I can bear it and will check it out!

The language is far less offensive than his admitting that he could do better solos but leaves what he infers are sub par solos on his CDs rather then use technology. I wonder how much room he has at his house to park his horse and buggy?

If I am paying for a CD, I want perfect, clean, precise, 100% effort. And if you can play a better solo, do another one. Until it's right.

I smashed the hell out of my car today. When the cops came I told him "Officer, that guy was BOTH texting and drinking a beer." The cop said "Sir, he has every right to do that. I mean, it's HIS living room..."

It’s your money and your prerogative but that sure would limit my buying/listening: No Django, Wes, Joe Pass, Barney Kessel, Kenny Burrell, Jim Hall, Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson, Charlie Parker, Chet Baker, Miles, not even the iconic album "Kind Of Blue,” on the very FIRST track “So What” Miles at about ~2:13, the sax at about 5:01, and a few other places. An always note perfect sax or trumpet player could be very dull indeed.

All the above albums I own have a “flub” or two here and there.

Joe Pass's “Virtuoso" on the first track: ‘Night and Day' at ~1:27, ~1:55, ~3:00, and the third track 'Here’s that Rainy Day' at ~1:57, 3:04, 3:36, or 'All the Things You Are' ~1:49, etc. and depending on your idea of perfection there are some not-fully fretted notes throughout and it’s a GREAT album. I doubt there is any better solo jazz (or any genre) guitar player, period.

I don't call note/pitch perfect and over produced recordings embalmed, as Jim Hall allegedly said, I call them airbrushed.

Do I really need to be so specific that I differentiate between those old masters recording 60 years ago on 2 track tape and some old guy now using digital software?

Wow.

I'm actually surprised that guy can use a computer well enough to have a youtube channel. Most old guys like him are borderline Luddites. He looks like one of those guys I used to talk to when I worked at an internet provider that said things like "Ain't it cool how my grandkids can send me these here eee-lectronic letters with pichures right in 'em?"

I watched his whole video and all I saw was a guy who uses "my old school line of thinking" as an excuse that he can't play any better than he can and doesn't know how to do punch ins. AND refuses to (gasp) learn something new!! I can't help but wonder if he churns his own butter and makes lye soap like the hill folk used to....

Give me a break. There's a difference between "can't" and "won't".

As far as Bruno - yea he's old school (and he's younger than me but looks at least 10 years older). However, you know he also had head trauma last Jul? A fall, was hospitalized in critical condition for a while, through at least last Sep, and was having seizures due to that head-trauma (still under care) and only able to start playing again SLOWLY this last Nov'ish.

None of that excuse's his attitude, he has ALWAYS been like that, but it does explain some of his recent tentative playing on those short you tubes. No Jimmy's no Pass or Hall but wish I had actual catalog of recorded music, still for sale, to point to.

Not to split hairs but Joe Pass's album "Virtuoso" (the first one) was cut in '73 and they DID have the tech in studios by then - so wonder why he, his producer, mix engineer, or others didn't correct some of the "flubs?"

On this one we'll obviously disagree - I want some life, some humanity, some spontaneity in most of the music I want to listen to, which means there will be imperfections.

Can I humbly suggest you look again at other videos of his. Ironically, I just put a link up from Youtube on another part of the forum. Check out some of his earlier theory lessons. Very impressive. You've confirmed that he's not a well man now. I believe he suffers from Arthritis as well which involves fairly heavy medication.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
