My submission to Song A Week Challenge, week of March 19 2018, on the theme "Snap." Also posted here for your amusement :-)

As usual (for me), drum and bass lines courtesy of Band In A Box:
****** Song Summary *************
Title: Whisper
File:Whisper.SGU
Key=E , Tempo 102, Length (m:s)=2:14
Style is ZZLITROK.STY (Light Rock Style)
*******************

The drums and bass were rendered in Cubase's HALion engine. Standard GM drum kit, percussive synth bass. That's me on vocals, guitar, keys and finger snaps.

This is about two people who experience a lot of conflict and raised voices, but ultimately belong together. Learning the virtues of patience and lowered voices.

"Whisper"

You’ve got, nowhere to go
I’ve got somewhere to stay,
You just, don’t want to know
I just don’t want to say
can you hear me whisper

Without, snappin your finger
No doubt, makin that sound
This time, everything lingers
This time when you’re around
And you hear me whisper

Choices flow, don’t want to stay
Voices low, don’t want to say
Time to go, don’t want to miss her
I’m so slow, can you hear me whisper

I said what’s, on my mind
You said what, you can say
I tried, pearls and diamonds
You tried, to stay away
But you heard me whisper

Without, snappin your finger
No doubt, makin that sound
This time, everything lingers
This time when you’re around
And you hear me whisper

Early seventies rocking. You've done a great job on this. A style of music we don't hear much any more. Some good story telling is the cherry on top.
Great work. Rob

I'm both amused and happily entertained. smile

As Rob said, you nailed that '70s vibe.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

This is excellent - love the track selection and vocal. Agree on the 70s vibe - you really capture it nicely here.

Well done!

Great strong driving delivery.

The echoes added excellent dimension, and so too did the breaks.

An excellent production, no question.

It's been said already, and I will mention it again because of how close it rings true - the 70's were revived with this tune! I loved the use of the effects on the vocals. It really added a nice, unique dynamic to the whole thing.

Not a thing I'd change here - thanks for sharing smile

Deryk

I second that - hearing a little Roxy Music in there.

Yes, excellent song Rob, the Bass just stands out so well in this mix along with the delayed vocals, so well done.

Agree on the 70's comments! Great job on capturing that feel! Kind of a Jethro Tull/Cream mix! Thanks, Torrey

Excellent!! Loved everything about it: thematic concept, lyric tightness, performance, arrangement--definitely will be listening several times to drain all of the goodness I can get out of it.

One of the things I like best about it is that, due to the construction of the melody, the lyrics have to live within a very limited economy, where every syllable counts, and choice/exclusion is really important--and the result is outstanding.

Thanks for sharing this!

Great vibe! I'm hearing a little 60s,70s and 80s all mashed up in there. Really cool vocal too.

Man, that is WELL put together.

Your write and the vocal instrumental performances are top notch - the mix presents a wonderful soundstage on our monitors.

Pro production all the way.

And it sticks with you!

Hi kybordr,

This sounds incredibly good. It's one heck of a great musical journey!

The composing, arranging, performing mixing and producing are excellent. Everything sounds polished, vibrant and confident.

Your attention to arranging and mixing detail is really commendable. Creativity shines in every nook and cranny of this presentation.

I really enjoyed it!

All the best,
Noel

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
