6:58am, laying in bed since the dog woke me at 6, dictating lyrics into my cell phone. And I seem to do this 4 or 5 times a week.

Yet I maintain that I am not crazy.

Actually that's a good thing. I'm lucky if I wake up twice a year with lyric ideas.

Steve, the downside is that this kind of thing is just part of the swirling vortex that is my mind. Every waking moment is things like "I need to get my oil changed. Did I lock the car? Tomorrow is the day that the grocery store weekly ad starts. I need dog food. Let's get some time in on this song. After I run to Walmart for the stuff on my list. Let me open Evernote and read my list. Where is my phone? Oh it's in the kitchen. Hey as long as I am in here let me wash these dishes. This dishrag is getting kind of dirty. Let me do a load of laundry. Look at all this sawdust on the basement floor. let me vacuum this real quick. Oh man this filter is filthy. I need a new one. Let me go upstairs and look up the model number. Wow it isn't listed. Let me go to the website of the people who made this shop vac and see what the model number is. Oh look. One of my youtube channels has an update. Look at that fresh water tank fill up measuring tool. I need to order one of those. Let me go to Amazon real quick and get that. Okay now what was I doing? Oh yeah shop vac filter."

All. Day. Long.

The only time I seem to have any focus at all is with music. I can sit at the computer for hours and get completely lost in "this section has to be 2db louder" and "I wonder if I move this section to here and push that bridge back a bars if that would sound better?"

This last song that I put up was probably 55-60 hours of playing, cutting, pasting, mixing, programming the automation on 2 channels.... 55-60 hours over maybe 7-8 days. I have days that I don't even touch music and days I spend a whole day on it. The lyrics I wrote this morning will be in a song by the end of the day. Then the tedious part of the way I write will start. By the time it goes to Rog for his contribution it will be like revision 15. Or more.

Yet the shrink said I do NOT have ADD.

Funny thing but after seeing her for a while, SHE now can't focus on anything for more than 30 seconds.

My musical ideas always come to me at the most odd times as well. I swear, it'll be 10:30 PM and I'm laying in bed, having to get up in 6 hours - and for some reason, I'm on my phone jotting ideas down.

I generally get my song ideas as I am trying to fall asleep or as I am driving.

On a side note I am just glad that I wake up each morning!

I guess the upside is that from that particular sleepless morning I ended up with lyrics, fleshed out the chord progression and tweaked it the same day, sang the thing the next day, and it is now in the hands of my own personal Geoff Emerick, known to us all as Rog, for slide guitar parts as performed by Rog and his extremely talented guitar student Beth. Might have it as soon as next week. Then to finish the disco song, and on to the symphonic rock piece I want to do, which will end the "write some different genres" jag I have been on. (Still need to do a ska piece.) After that it's back to finish up the "Loose end" stuff I was working on before all this diversion stuff started.

But no, I'm not ADD....

I am SO glad you included the "or" in that sentence.

That's amazing.... sounds like you have a budding lyricist there.... the dog woke you up while apparently dictating lyrics into your cell phone....

And I thought I had a smart dog...

commas and sentence structure will certainly totally change the meaning of a sentence.

Interesting. To me it reads with the "since the dog woke me at 6" as being parenthetical by virtue of the comma after the 6.

Or I could have added "and I am" in front of "laying in bed".

But note it was 6:58am, a time of day when I am running on random access memory only....

That dog wakes me at 7am +/- 10 minutes every day. Apparently she never read the email in 2013 explaining that I was retired....

Worked out well as they were pretty good lyrics. You'll hear them next week some time!!

I shot an elephant in my pajamas. What he was doing in my pajamas I’ll never know.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
