How to use what I find in the MIDI SOUNDTRACK examples the following way to use this note insert system:
1st
C.d this will only play drums
C.b bass
C.g guitar
C.p piano
C.s strings

I according to the styles how do this change?
In the standard ZZjazz swing style the sequence is
1-Bass
2-Piano
3-Drums
4-guitar
5-String
6-Melody
7-Soloist
8-Through

Also how to ONLY hear the Melody, or the Soloist in certain bars?

I don't understand how BIAB interprets these commands, is the letter following the periods or C.b will always be the first instrument in the Style?

Also the number of periods changes dramatically according to the Style. Real instruments behave differently from the regular Midi whicvh always follows the same musical pattern

Any hints, or suggestions, or the latest versions have a different way to stop certain instuments? Thanks

Shots, rests, and holds work great for MIDI and generally work well for RealTracks (not all RT's have holds and shots defined, but rests should work). Shots, rests, and holds do not apply to the melody or soloist track, so playing selectively there needs to be controlled by you (if a MIDI track, then just edit the notes since only the accompaniment tracks are affected by regeneration; however, if you assigned a RT to melody or soloist, you'll have to do things like mute the track in places where you don't want it to play - F5 can be your friend here).

BIAB gives you the choice of three dots, which you can then modify.

One dot means to rest
Two dots means hit a shot
Three dots means hold the chord

The letters after the dot are the instruments to exclude from the rest, shot, or hold. It doesn't matter which order you put them in, as BIAB will rearrange them into standard order when you hit ENTER. The tracks are the legacy track names and may not actually represent the instrument on that track. (For example, the string track doesn't have to be an orchestral string instrument, it could be a trumpet or a guitar, or vibes). So you have to know the legacy tracks in order.

So if you enter:

C..BDP it will play a shot for all instruments except the instruments on the bass, drums, and piano track. In other words, guitar and strings will play the shot, the rest of the instruments play whatever is defined for that style or RealTrack.

C...DS will play a hold for all instruments except the instruments on the drums and strings track; they will continue playing the defined style.

C.D will hold all instruments except the drums.

The rests, shots, and holds will remain in effect until the next chord entry encountered.

Hope that helps.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
