Suddenly none of my BIAB files display a song's title in the black box up near the upper left corner of the normal BIAB screen. A possible clue is the STYLE black box seems taller and the title box is somewhat reduced in height. Not sure exactly when this happened, sometime over the last few days. I tried returning to factory settings, no joy. Must be something I'd done but I'm currently perplexed. 2018 version with all latest updates.

Guidance appreciated.

Hi John,

Perhaps your screen resolution changed or the graphics card driver updated.

Sometimes I've had luck changing the screen resolution, warm start Windows so the new resolution is set, returning to my preferred resolution, warm start Windows again and all is well.

John,

In the below, I'm assuming that you've tried restarting your computer. Sometimes things seem to get stuck in memory that only a restart can clear. (Logging off doesn't seem to be enough.)

Try this and see if it helps...

1. Under Options, save a copy of your preferences.

2. Close BIAB.

3. Go to the \bb\Preferences folder.

4. Rename INTRFACE.BBW to INTRFACE.OLD and MYSETUP.DK to MYSETUP.OLD

These are BIAB's settings files and doing the above forces BIAB to create new versions of the files.

You'll need to setup your audio and midi drivers again after the above.

You could try loading in the saved preferences to get your drivers back. Hopefully that won't reset the title window's size.

Let us know how you go.

Regards,
Noel

Thanks Noel, I've done as you recommended. I thought for sure this would work and am very surprised that it has not.

Still perplexed.

John,

That's really strange. Like you, I was pretty sure it would work, too.

Could you please capture a view of your BIAB chordsheet and upload it to the forum? It would help us all to see what you are seeing.

To do this on a Windows machine...

1. Press Printscreen.

2. Open Microsoft Paint.

3. Use CTRL+V to paste what's on the clipboard into Paint.

4. Save the image as a jpg.

5. Go to the link below and follow the instructions on how to upload it to the forum.

http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=386690#Post386690

Below is an image of my chordsheet when I'm in BIAB. This is the view that we need to see. (If your BIAB desk looks different from mine, press CTRL+T to change from fullscreen to standard view.)

Regards,
Noel

I've not posted a jpg before and I think I've followed the instructions. File Manager says "Total Files: 1", but I don't see it in the preview. If it doesn't post I'll retry in a bit.

I do appreciate your interest and guidance. In any case I'm guessing my next step might be reinstall BIAB?

John,

Thank you for the image. That helps me a great deal. It's strange behaviour for sure!

Before re-installing, try the following...

1. Right-click on the chordsheet.

2. Select "Song Settings".

3. In the "Song Settings" window click on the "Title/Chorus" button on the top left.

4. Type in a title (just a few random letters will do) and click on OK.

Does this help?

Also....

When you use CTRL+T and go to 'full-screen' mode, is the title box still missing?

Another also...

1. Enter into Stylepicker.

2. Select some style.

3. Click on the "Load song demo" button on the right.

4. Click OK.

This will load the demo song using a PG Music file. Does the problem still persist?

Yet another also...

1. Open one of your song files in Realband. (Is the title there now?)

2. Save the song in SGU/MGU format with a new name.

3. Open this newly named song in BIAB.

4. Has that helped?

Lastly...
Is this problem with all songs or just the one?

Regards,
Noel

P.S. If you do re-install BIAB, you only need choose the minimal options. It's not necessary to re-install all Realtracks.

John,

One other thought...

Sometimes when things go wrong, re-installing the most recent update has been known to correct the problem.

With this in mind and if none of the above helps...

1. go to the link below

http://www.pgmusic.com/support_windowsupdates.htm

2. download build 516

3. close BIAB

4. right-click on the exe for build 516 and select "Run as administrator"

5. check the paths of the installation process when you get to that screen

6. start BIAB

Any joy yet?

Regards,
Noel

Hi,

I've never seen this issue before. You could try going to Options - Preferences - Display and hitting the Defaults button, but that's a bit of a long shot. Deleting "BBToolBar9.ini" from the BB\Preferences\ is a more thorough way of resetting the toolbar. Not sure if that'll fix this exact issue, but it's worth a shot.

If not, then reinstalling should do the trick, but it might require a fresh install.

If you're running BIAB from the C drive, you could try an installation #2 (which just installs BIAB but not the RealTracks, like Noel recommended), but if that doesn't work, deleting the BB folder and reinstalling again really should do the trick.

If you're running BIAB from a pre-installed USB hard drive, you could try an option 2 reinstall back to that same drive, but if that doesn't work, I'd install to the C drive and run it from there instead.

It's hard to fully reinstall Band-in-a-Box on those USB drives, which is why I always recommend installing BIAB to another drive and running it from there, in case something goes wrong.

Thanks
Kent

Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried them all and none work. I have this problem on any/all songs I load, even one I created in RB as Noel suggested. Toggling Cntl T back and forth does not clear the issue and I even reloaded/reinstalled the latest update. I'm running the full-up fully updated 2018 audiophile version (BB in C:, Real Drums/Tracks in D:).

Next (probably tomorrow) I'll reinstall and let you know. I'm confident this will fix the problem and I still suspect the root cause somehow is something I've done.

I sincerely appreciate the time, thought and efforts you guys put behind the suggestions.

Hi John,

Sounds good. As long as you delete the C:\BB folder, and I'll be shocked if it doesn't get fixed. smile

Cheers

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
