Not That Good This song is dedicated to Saara Aalto, Finland's representative in Eurovision Song Contest this year. She is very talented singer-songwriter who hasn't received the appreciation she deserves until recently. She has participated in many competitions like Talent Finland, Voice Of Finland, Eurovision qualifying round, Britain's X-Factor, always finishing at the second position. She didn't get a recording deal earlier, maybe because she wanted to write her own songs, she didn't want to sing in Finnish or she just didn't fit into a certain commercial mold of record companies. She has been told that she is "too diverse and that is not a good thing". But fortunately she hasn't made compromises and didn't give up her own style, and finally due to the success in the X-Factor, she has a record out by a big label and gets a chance to perform on a big international arena, in the ESC. She has partly inspired this story which I want to share with you. And best of luck to her in the ESC. Thanks to Miira for her excellent interpretation of the song. I used The Orchestra instrument in the arrangement for the first time on a larger scale. And not to forget BIAB, the song is strongly based on that excellent acoustic "Liverpool" piano, also the guitar solo fits magically - and I didn't have to do any re-generating or editing for it. RealDrums: NashvilleEven8 RealTracks: Electric bass #366 Acoustic guitar #1596 Acoustic piano #892 Cello #1856 Electric guitar solo #1167 MIDI instruments (Timpani, Strings) from style DRAMORK4 played through GPO5 MIDI instruments (Bass, String) from style ORK448 played throught GPO5 Other MIDI: The Orchestra Vocals: Miira Mixed in Adobe Audition Lyrics: You can say that I'm sweet and cute but I can read on your lips: good but 'not that good' I don't fit in your resume I'm not made of Chardonnay but I can be a different taste every day. Today I chose my own course didn't follow yours, I was free to open avoided doors to challenge myself and principles in pre-made scores. I've been wrong, hurt and often misunderstood but I've fought through rocks to rise above 'not that good'. I don't play by the mainstream book and if I don't sell my soul I'll be still 'not that good' I may not fit into your mold or bring you silver and gold but I can tell my unyielding tale that's honest and bold. [Chorus] [Chorus] I felt not accepted I was not that kind you could coerce, 'not that good' because I was diverse. But I didn't have to meet expectation of anyone I could walk candidly like I had won. ----------------------- Janne

Janne, Diverse...a good word to describe your songs. "Original" and "textured" also occured to me listening to this very thoughtful and enjoyable song. Well performed as always by Mira. The orchestration and guitar break sounded great. Interesting inspiration behind the song...Googling Saara Aalto now to hear her music.

That's a good song to be "Not That Good". I enjoyed listening to it. I think your female vocalist had a wonderful performance. I really enjoyed the song arrangement.

Thoroughly enjoyed listening.. Very masterful use of the orchestral style.. I especially liked how you varied the arrangement each time you repeated the verse or chorus. Also, your chord changes often surprised me - - and I liked that.. And your word selection, such as :chardonnay' displayed creative reach. Finally, your last stanza had a completely different construction.. Like your subject, you yourself expand the normal boundaries and put your own imprint on your work.. Thank you for letting me soak in your creative work!

Hello, Janne
Very nice and rich! Excellent Song! The melody is very beautiful and the chord progression is also really wonderful. Great vocal! And the great orchestration, too! This tune is a little bit long but I never got tired of it. I think that it will become even more wonderful if there are countermelodies by oboe, F.horn, first violins, cellos, etc in places. But that is merely my taste, please do not mind. Enjoyed my listen a lot.
Best regards.
Shigeki Adachi

Thanks Ember for your kind words Yes, I have always appreciated people who go and do things their own way, maybe because I have always been such a person. for example I didn't want to get piano lessons because I didn't want others to say how my fingers should be placed And the same goes with my music, I do what sounds good to me and not what is dictated by some public opinion. Stay true to yourself, maybe that's a good title for my next song Janne

Hi Janne,
Just saw the Eurovision Song Contest and I had 3 favourites: Austria, Finland, Ireland. Yes, she has a very good voice, good song and deserved better.
Anne-Marie
I don't think I have ever heard you this melodic and orchestral. Beautiful! Vocals as well.

Thank you for letting me soak in your creative work! Thanks for your very uplifting feedback Nice to hear you noticed those small nuances between verses. And that my chord changes surprised you - I think there are some chords which sounded like lifted from Alan Parson song, so his music is definitely one source of inspiration here. And thanks for 'expanding boundaries', that tells me that I'm on the right path Janne

But nice to hear you didn't get tired Janne

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
