Hi all,

I own BIAB 2014 and 2016. When I installed them, I did so each to their own folders, so that -- wisely or not -- each contains all the Realtracks etc relevant to its version -- so the 2014 folder has RTs 1-227, and the 2016 folder has RTs 1- 253. Idid this just because I didn't want either version to mess up just because the other did.

Well, now, I just bought BIAB 2018 and, even to me, it seems excessive to download and install RTs 1-300, which is what BIAB 2018 (Ultra) comes with, when I already have 1-253 elsewhere. Seems I only need to download and install Rts 254-300. The question is, how can I do this, and yet keep all three versions of BIAB happy and functional? Is there a way I can put all my RTs into one fiolder, and have each version of BIAB access it?

Also, how do I get BIAB 2018 to recognise the Bonus RT packs I got when I bought 2014 and 2016?

My aim is to make BIAB 2018 my mainstay, with access to every RT etc I've ever bought, while keeping the older versions on hand for safety.

I'd be grateful for any advice.

Hi Lingyai,

I'd highly recommend installing 2018 over the 2016 version, and then I'd get rid of the 2014 version, as it won't be needed. There's no need to keep them separate.

If you really want three separate installations, you'll want to make a BB 2018 folder, copy the contents of the 2016 version into it, then install 2018 to that folder.

Thanks
Kent

Hi,

Edit - oops didn't see Kent's post - as Kent said you can install over top and not keep your older ones, but if you DO want to keep them then you can.

Aside from the disk space used, there is no problem with having multiple Band-in-a-Box installations on your computer. For example, you could have a folder C:\bb2016 for version 2016 and a folder C:\bb2018 for the latest version and each will be happily self-contained within it's own folder. So you could duplicate your bb2016 folder to bb2018, and install Band-in-a-Box 2018 there. You only need to download RealTracks sets 255 and higher since you have the earlier ones already.

This should work fine if you want to save space - you could have one RealTracks folder, and you can point Band-in-a-Box to that folder by setting the Custom folder location in the RealTracks Preferences.

You already have advice from the best. I will just add that, if you already have two versions of BIAB, I hope any Bonus Pak purchases were installed into both. Otherwise, if you saved the .EXE setup files, you can always reinstall them into the new 2018. It does no harm to run an installer if the files are already there.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
