Cover of the Great Hymn 'Our Great Savior'. The hook is really 'Hallelujah, What a Savior', so that's what I'm calling this version! Hallelujah What a Savior Piano, Vocal and arrangement by moi BIAB tracks: 1181 Acousiic guitar 777 and 778 Bass 1105 Banjo Drums are Native Instruments, Modern Drummer Hallelujah What a Savior Words: J. Wilbur Chapman (public domain) Music: Rowland Hugh Pritchard (public domain) AKA - Our Great Savior AKA - Jesus! what a friend for sinners 1 Jesus! what a friend for sinners! Jesus! lover of my soul; Friends may fail me, foes assail me, He, my Savior, makes me whole. Chorus: Hallelujah! what a Savior! Hallelujah! what a friend! Saving, helping, keeping, loving, He is with me to the end. 2 Jesus! what a strength in weakness! Let me hide myself in Him; Tempted, tried, and sometimes failing, He, my strength, my victory wins. [Repeat Chorus] 3 Jesus! what a help in sorrow! While the stormclouds over me roll, Even when my heart is breaking, He, my comfort, helps my soul. [Repeat Chorus X2]

Ian, What a fantastic job you've done with this! Your presentation abounds with competence and confidence. I've heard this tune used a number of times with different hymns over the years but, today, it was like hearing it for the very first time. The tempo, your choice of instrumentation and your vocals made it sparkle... and then some! All the best, Noel

i remember this...think in childhood in church. Looked it up and saw that it appears in a methodist hymnal -- and I attended an old wooden structure methodist church.
Well done and thanks for the memories....

Ahhh yes. One of the old classic hymns of the faith.
I've forgotten so many of them. It's good to hear the old songs brought back with a fresh and new perspective.
Good job, and some nice piano work.

Very well done and inspired rendition!! Vocal is nice...very passionate. On my computer, panning sounds unbalanced, and I think you could use some verb and EQing on the vocal. Very nicely done! Take care. Greg

This has always been one of my favorite tunes, and you've got a pleasant setting for it - I really like the banjo. Good work on the piano.
Perhaps the vocal could come up a bit, but that's a nit.
I enjoyed listening.

Thanks much for all the kind comments guys.
Noel - Thanks for the really generous encouragement!
Janice and Bud - Thanks!. Yeah this is a popular tune and is most hymnals that I'm aware of. Interestingly, the tune was written long before the words. In the pre-copyright era folks used to write new words to existing tunes and vice versa. Amazing Grace is an example. A huge percentage of hymns were written this way. Now you'd be sued to kingdom come if you wrote new words to a Brad Paisley tune etc.!
Anyway, I digress, thanks much!
Clifton - Thanks much!
Herb - Thanks for checking the tune out. Really appreciated. It IS one of the great hymns! Peace!
Scott - Thanks much!
Greg - Thanks for mixing critique. I agree with you about the vocal. I need to do something to smooth out the high end. The panning is probably the piano. I have it panned slightly against the quitar, but the piano is louder. I'll see about putting the piano in the center, or closer to center. Thanks much!
David - Thanks for listening. I appreciate the mixing feedback. On my studio monitors the vocals sound 'in the pocket' to me but on my 2" computer speakers, they sound too loud. I really think I've got to do something with the vocal eq. Thanks for the valuable feedback!
Thanks so much guys!
Ian

Beautiful and passionate. Love the way you arranged and sang this. Agree with Greg on the vox being a bit too dry. This is really quite a moving rendition.
