I'm quite upset right now.

In general, I have to repeatedly hit F10 to work in biab on my laptop. { to play sections} However, I don't know about other laptops -- but F10 is the wifi main control switch on my laptop.

Unfortunately repeated hammering of this some how short circuits everything, and disables wifi -- badly.

It's had bad effects before. But this time it totally disabled wifi, where I couldn't do anything to fix it.

This was to the point I had to start massive trouble shooting: searching for drivers, thinking about reinstall windows 7 etc.

I also inadvertently erased a valuable data hard drive in all the confusion.

Is there anyway to remap these hotkeys?

I can feel your frustration.

To start BIAB, do you right-click on the shortcut and select "Run as administrator"? This is different from logging in into Windows as admin when you boot-up.

The problem that you are experiencing sounds like it might be a "Run as administrator" problem.

This can be set permanently by

1. right-clicking on the start up shortcut

2. selecting "Properties"

3. Under the "Compatibility" tab, selecting "Run as administrator"

4. I also run BIAB by setting the Compatibility Mode as XP (Service pack 3) -- also under the "Compatibility" tab.

Let us know if this helps.

Regards,
Noel

I've just had a look through Help and the shortcut keys and I see what you mean by F10 and looping (it's not something I use).

As far as I know, BIAB does not allow mapping of keys. This is done at the programming level

With the above in mind, it sounds like you'd be better off using the "Loop section" dialogue window that I've highlighted on the graphic below.

If your BIAB view is different from mine, use CTRL+T to change views.

hi Noel96,

Looks promising. I will try it. thanks a lot.

The key WiFi is usually activated/deactivated using Fn+F10 unless you have it set in the BIOS to work as Laptop's Hardware Functions without holding the Fn as well and use the Fn + F1 F2 F3 etc.. for Windows functions.

If you want an easy way to set up any Custom Functions use Free Biab Chord Picker Tool Update beta 2.0e under the Tools tab.

You can also use the L key with a number indicating the total section you want to loop. Select the measure you want your loop to begin. Your song must have been generated before this procedure works.

Hit L and the number indicating how many bars the loop will contain and Enter.

For instance:

Select measure 22

enter L4 <Enter>

Measures 22,23,24,25 loop

Select a measure and enter L25 and 25 measures loop. L1 loops the current measure and so on.

This feature can also be accessed from the Loop Dialog Window.

Everyone, in case it matters, the OP is using BIAB 2014. This came up in another recent thread.

Just from a quick read it seems like the OP is confusing f10 itself with f10 plus the function key. It should be function and f10 to toggle the wifi. If it wasn't like that, the laptop would have no function keys at all.

I am using the new 1040XTRAEZ form this year. It has just 2 lines.

1. How much did you make in 2023?
2. Send it to us.

KGU 2,

What brand and model laptop are you using? As others have noted it may be possible to go into the laptop bios and change the behavior of the F10 key. However, there is no way for us to investigate that option without knowing what hardware you're using.

Yep, on my HP laptop, the default was to use the special secondary operations on the function keys by just hitting the function keys (volume up/down, wifi, etc.). The actually use the function keys themselves, you had to press the little blue Fn key (to the left of the space bar) plus the function key.

However, you could reverse this behavior in the BIOS (which is what I do). That's what it sounds like is the problem to me (as others have also noted).

Thanks Noel! That helped me too. Now I run EVERYTHING as admin and it seems to "smooth" a lot of things out. And the permanent solution is neat and saves time! JZ

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
