I don't want to clog up my laptop with 30 GB of real tracks that I don't need. How can I just download just the Jazz sets that I need? I purchased the USB drive - is there a way to extract from it just the real tracks I want? Or do I just do the "install everything" option, and just delete what I don't need? How do I delete things if I don't know which instruments belong to which styles? The instruments take up more data than the styles, so I need to lose the instruments not required....

This is too complicated, there really should be an easy way to achieve this! I can't be the only person who wishes to do this.... :-/

Hi princeplanet,

Good news! You don't have to install any RealTracks to you computer's hard drive, all of them can stay on the external USB drive.

When you run the Set-up program it gives you four installation options. The minimal option just installs a few and the rest runs off the external drive.

Go to +++ Videos +++ look for the "Running Band-in-a-Box From Your External Drive" video located in the Setup video section.

I look at it this way, when I buy a music book, I don't play all the songs, but if there are enough to make the book worth it to me, I consider them extra.

Same for most anything that come in collections.

I would keep the RTs you like on your hard drive, I find they load much quicker that way. Any that you think you don't want, you can off-load on a big flash drive or external HD. That way they aren't gone, just in case you might need one, you can retrieve it.

The RT's are already on a flash drive that I purchased. All I want to do is to find a way to install, from the flash drive, just some of the real tracks to my internal drive. Other than installing them all and then deleting, is there another way?

Here's what I would try;
Choose the option to install BB onto C:\ drive while leaving the RealTracks on the external.

Afterwards 'copy' the RealTracks you want (by copying the associated folders) to the C:\BB\Realtracks folder, leaving the others on the external drive.

Then change where your BB/RB applications (on the C:\ drive) look for the RTs using Options or Prefs. With the above mentioned install method, they would be pointed to the external drive; change it to the C:\ drive locations for RTs and RDs.

Then you'll need to Rebuild your lists after launching BB/RB, so the program only sees and uses the RTs you copied over to your C:\ drive, yet you'll retain access when needed to the rest of the RTs. You should be able to copy more RTs over later if desired, and rebuild the lists.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Personally, I would just run the RealTracks from the USB drive. It's easy and you have everything available to you at all times. But what RHARV said will work; however, it will limit you as to which styles you can use (unless you manually replace the N/A RealTracks with something else while you build your song).

If I were only going to use specific RT's, I think I would do so exclusively in RealBand and then not even use the StylePicker (just choose the RT's I wanted for each track).

But that's me, and I don't actually do it that way, since I like to keep everything at my fingertips.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
