I want to start off in 3/4 and then go to 4/4 for a few bars. Bar settings seems to have no effect. Any ideas? Thanks

This is unfortunately a long time limitation.

If you need a mix of 3/4 and 4/4, you must choose a 4/4 style, and then use bar settings at the start to set it to 3/4, then you can change to 4/4 when you need.

Note, however, despite the song starting in 3/4 time, you're going to get a 4-beat count-in.

I would have thought you start with a 3/4 and a 3/4 realstyle then at the appropriate bar set to 4/4 with a 4/4 realstyle. The realstyle will not change its timing by itself.

I could be wrong but this makes sense to me.

Hi Tony,

Yes it does make sense.

One of BIAB's quirks, though, is that the default, base style has to be the time signature that has the most beats in the bar.

As Videotrack says, this means that the initial style has to be 4/4 and then, at bar 1, the style is changed to 3/4 using bar settings.

Regards,
Noel

I'm not sure that is still true. I just set the time signature to 3/4, sorted the styles by 3/4 and I got a 3/4 count-in on both of the styles that I choose. Maybe someone could verify this.

Note that I am using the latest BiaB build.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

The difference I think here is that you chose multiple styles. The downfall is that this often sounds like you change bands half-way through the song (the drum kit is different, the instruments are different etc).

To have consistency in delivery, I need to use the same Style, but play 3/4 then 4/4 by just changing the number of beats in the bar.

I can get some sort of success by changing styles, but the audible result is generally not acceptable. The contrast is that it sounds like a different band is suddenly playing.

OK, I understand now.

Changing time signatures and keeping the same instrumentation is where MIDI can excel over RTS.

Yes, using MIDI would definitely give you total consistency.

I'm also still hopeful that they will fix the count-in issue where the count-in is currently matched to the time signature of the style and not the number of beats in the first bar. My hopes have faded a bit over the years though... frown

Ok thanks for the heads up. I think what I'll do is render a wav of 3/4 real and 4/4 real and then mix in sequencer.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
