This may be a crazy question, but I like to create and save user styles where I map out the soloed instrument sections and "breakdown chorus" sections, etc. as templates.

Like in V1 you might see G.p, D.p and so forth.

Is there any way to *save* those solo choices so you can use the structure as a template?

That is, if you change your mind on a chord you don't have to type G.p again, just G.

And in the trickier, lengthier sections you don't have to type C2.p.b.d all over again if you change your mind, just the C2. In other words "freeze the pink."

This might not make any sense at all, but if it does and someone knows how to do this, I would love to know too!!!!

I understand. I don’t know how to do this, but I have an idea how PG Music might implement it. Have you looked at pgshortc.txt ? I wonder if one, two or three dots could be added to a chord shortcut you define.

Thanks Matt. I will call tech support.

I know some of the their older midi styles do this automatically, so there must be a way.

I just don't know how!

Can't you use one of these templates for the chord chart and replace the midi tracks with RealTracks?

The Biab Chord Picker Tool (Download) beta 2.1f will let you transpose the chord with one click without having to retype Csus2.bdp F#m7b5...db etc.. , it will also instantly transpose the selected bars/chords.

Hey David,

If I'm understanding your query correctly, you can do this utilizing the Song Form Maker, as it duplicates sections preserving the "dots/pink."

If you do a copy special of a chord or block of chords, it can preserve the chord settings.

Hey Deacon,

If you enter a chord/change the chord it goes back to black (all instruments.)

What I am trying to figure out if how to freeze the pink if you change a chord.

That is you can have a template that says C.pd, for example.

If you decide to enter C2 you just enter C2 and you have C2.pd in the frozen "pink" template. You don't have to retype that every time.

That is what I am trying to do!

Thanks!!

David, if I understand you correctly, want the need for your template to be entering c2=c.dp change from song to song? It appears you would have to have a lot of quick keys to cover all the possibilities and they would constantly be different from song to song. Most individual songs will only have a few different 'pink key' requirements.

What I suggest is creating a per song shortcut for these bars. Easy and quick to do.

Example: first 4 bars of your song: c.dp|c..dp| c...|g.dp

if that's all you need, you would just enter them as is and be done. But say they reoccur in single bars half dozen times throughout the song plus you have 4 additionals - f.g - f... - dm.d and g...

I went to the last 4 bars with the 2 bar ending engaged. On a 32 bar song - Bars 29-32. It's irrelevant at this point whether you will use the BIAB 2 bar generated ending or not because what you want to do is to enter each of your 8 pink chords into the 8 measures of the 2 bar ending at the bottom line visible of the chord chart.

Bars 29-32 would look like this:

29:c.dp/c..dp|30:c.../g.dp|31:f.g/f...|32:dm.d/g...

Simply select the appropriate pink chord and paste it in the proper measure in 1-28 of your chord chart

Edit/Insert Insert Bars = 28 for an additional 28 bars of your chord sheet

The 2 bar ending with all of your pink chords used in your song will still be visible at the bottom of the page.

Continue to select and paste the necessary chords onto your chord chart.

This allows you to have every pink chord selection in every key and track configuration of your song to be entered once and used multiple times.

Thanks Charlie, that is very useful. I will use that.

What I was originally talking about is saving an entire dotted template so if you CHANGE a chord in that template it does not revert back to black (all instruments) as opposed to cutting and pasting.

That is, I am trying to create several templates, where the instrumentation sparseness in a breakdown chorus (as but one example) would always stay the same--only the chords would change. And if the pink were to stay frozen in that template section, I could just just type Bm, and not bm.dpg (as but one example.)

I do not think this is possible now, and I am not talking about hot keys, or cutting and pasting, I am talking about freezing the entire template.

I wish I could find that post where Peter Gannon recreated Hotel California, if anyone bookmarked it.

I have searched his posts and can't find it.

I seem to remember seeing something similar to what I am talking about there, so the technology must exist in part in "multi-styles" if it can be expanded to allow people to create and save user styles that also "freeze the pink."

I see what you mean and think there will have to be programming on PGMusic's end for that. Maybe they could add it to the Chord builder page. There are many combinations so the list would be quite extensive and so much that for me, I think by the time I open a menu, find and make my selection, I could do it faster just to type it in. Intriguing idea though especially if it's done in such a way to be very fast.

Regarding Dr. Gannon and "Hotel California", he re-posted it once for me in another thread. I don't recall him discussing any template that would relate to this type of chord entry. He only discussed entering the correct chord progression and the remainder of the discussion involved Stylemaker search parameters and filter techniques. I may be incorrect on that but it's my recollection and the reason I requested the repost onto the second thread.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
