Sammy's Pizza Parlor in Hibbing, Minnesota is where Bob Zimmerman (Dylan) and I hung out sniffing out the girls, keggers, and house parties in the late '50s.

I'm 2 months older than Bob and lived in a nearby iron mining town about 7 miles away.

Treasured memories for certain.

Hey good buddy this is an excellent use of RTs.

So who got the most dates you or Bob?
Who drank the most beer?

PS - You knew both Bob and Nokie! I am extremely jealous!

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

My dear friend,

I know a gaggle of great guitarists but don't want to boast.

I met Nokie in '69. I was freshly back from 2 tours of liberating guesthouses in Germany and, although already a founding member of The Ventures, he was playing in my wife's cousin's band in Seattle. We were invited to a lounge to hear the band. I was bowled over to hear Nokie playing.

I'm close friends with Thom Bresh (Merle Travis' son), Richard Smith, Nina Gerber (she choose 2 of my tunes for future album release), and more.

I've outlived many others.

Don,
That`s some sweet playing ( you or an RT on lead ?) and I like the backing tracks too.
Your backstory for the tune is cool too, of course!

You are THE man when it comes to putting RT's together that sound like a well honed band...and this does not disappoint.

Enjoyed it!

Someone suggested that I "really aced the Santo & Johnny vibe." That certainly was unintentional but I had played with a young fellow in Minnesota who literally "owned" S&J on a pedal steel.

Your encouraging comments have made my day/week/month/year/decade. Thanks ever so much.

That was a really nice musical journey, Don.... very tasteful music to welcome in my morning here in Australia. I love the 12/8, 50s rock feel.

All the best,
Noel

Nice work here, Don smile As others said, this tune is really pretty. Nice and gentle on the ears. I'm definitely getting a early 60's kind of vibe on this one. It almost had a dreamy sort of quality to it.

You should be proud of this one - thanks for sharing!

I sent it to Sammy's current manager and he wrote back to say that the entire crew loves it and the back story. It is difficult to imagine that its been 60 years ago and relatives still living in Hibbing say that the pizza is still as good it was when Bob and I hung out there 60 years ago.

I'm working on a sequel, "Hold The Anchovies!" today with baritone guitar ala Sergio Leone. Stay tuned!
