I have often worried that Dr. Peter Gannon was nearing the end of music technology until I watched this episode on Netflix.

Wow! We have only scratched the surface!

https://www.netflix.com/watch/80233460?trackId=200257859

(You will need a Netflix account to view it.)

It will keep PG Music busy for a lot of years.

Larry,

I'm hesitant to record it for you.

The gist of it is, with wonderful proofs, our progeny will look back on the present time in music technology as "The Dark Ages" comparatively speaking. I wouldn't be so excited but they are already demonstrating it today.

Science has long known the existence of brain waves, for example. They are currently harnessing those waves noninvasively to allow us to "think" a song or a complete sympathy with simple apps for our phones that are currently available and very inexpensive.

This is just one of many concepts shown.

I am confident that Peter will be aboard this "technology train."

These are very exciting times for musicians.

Don, thanks for sharing that! I was going to say, "what an eye opener" but it's really a "mind opener."

Amazing times we live in.

Keith-Thanks for sharing that link as well. I have netflix; but that made it even easier.

Hi all
Yes indeed a very interesting video.
But its not only music that is using this sort of technology
A friend of mine has Parkinson’s and speech difficulties he was told by the speech therapist that if his speech becomes to difficult, they can supply an Ipad and app and a similar brain sensor, worn behind the ear.
With this he can think what he wants to say and the app will say it in a voice modelled on his own.
He can even hold of from saying the wrong thoughts (could be embarrassing when talking to some folk!) by pressing a button before releasing the words.
Amazing stuff
Best regards
Mike

I was hating it and almost bailed after a few minutes, wondering what the heck is this, where's the actual music, where's a melody going to come from? That's the biggest knock against rap, no melody. Then it gets to the last segment with the robot. That was very cool and made the whole video worth it. That robot was part of the band, moving with the beat and actually interacting musically.

Notice the rapper wasn't digging it? That's because in spite of what he says, talking about vibrations of life and all that he's not a musician, he can't play that keyboard or any other real instrument like the other guy did. That guy is a schooled pianist, he knows what's real music and what isn't and avoided getting into it with the rapper dude.

Now I know who to call if the bass player calls in sick...I can see it now, the bass player robot calls Uber who shows up with a self driving car...

Wow, that robot is cool. I never would have thought of giving a musical robot an eye like that, and I'm impressed by its ability to respond to music phrases with its own variations, not just copy what it heard.

Hip hop's understandably not for everyone, and GZA's not an instrumentalist, but he somehow managed to get into the studio with the great Vangelis to collaborate on tracks for his upcoming album. Should be interesting when it finally gets released.

Cheers, thanks for posting this Don!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
