I'm looking to hire someone to coach me by phone on topics such as:
+ Installation. Why am I getting odd error messages that appear briefly then disappear? I've re-installed twice.
+ Real Tracks. Why do I get messages that it can't find the real tracks specified in the style?
+ Getting all the styles and real tracks. I wanted to have them all, but I must have purchased the wrong package or done the install wrong
+ Using the Style Picker. The tutorials I've found all show a very different interface.
+ Finding and downloading songs created by others
+ Deciding whether to upgrade to 2018 version and which package

If needed, we can use screen sharing software to let you see what I am seeing and/or remote control software to let you mouse around.

I thought perhaps we could set up weekly or twice weekly calls for 30-60 minutes and gradually work our way through these issues and others that may arrive.

Thanks,

Ron Berst

RonBerst,

Welcome to the forum and to Band-in-a-Box, sometimes abbreviated to BiaB! My computer uses Windows so I'm unable to answer Mac specific questions. However, I believe I can help provide some assistance.

You mention you want ALL the styles and RealTracks. To have all of them you must purchase either the 2018 BiaB for Mac UltraPAK or Audiophile package, the four Xtra style packs and bonus material. Neither the BiaB Pro and Mega PAKs include all the package styles and RealTracks but instead have bundled collections.

A really good place to find BiaB song files is the +++ Yahoo Band-in-a-Box Group +++ . The group has two additional groups to archive song files.

Band-in-a-Box also accepts midi files. +++ Yahoo's MIDKAR Group +++ has a bunch of midi files.

Although I am happy to accommodate you, I agree with W.

Let's start with the simple stuff. Installation is not intuitive but the latest videos help a lot—if you know which one(s) to watch.

The answers to the questions will depend as the answers can affect each other.

1. What version of BIAB did you purchase?

2. Is it download only or did you get it on media (and what kind)?

3. Where do you want to install it — the Default location, run it off of the media you received or another drive? (the Default depends on how you received it).

In the mean time, with the weekend happening, watch the various installation videos.

There are things to do after you install and the videos go through them. If you don't, there will be messages — not so much error as statements of fact that you need to do a couple more things so that the Style Picker works properly and BIAB can find the various components. Again, covered in the installation videos.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
