Hi All,

Here's something new...

[Link no longer valid]

We drove all night
To visit California
We watched the sun come up
That old moon was a goner
You can rest your head
On my rolled up coat
Close your eyes to the lights
Drift away and float

And maybe today
We’ll arrive in the morning
Yes, maybe today
We’ll find the big waves calling
Yeah maybe today
We’ll collect what we've scattered
East fell into west
California mattered

Our days were alive
With the sound of road and gravel
From the top of the night
We can see how far we travelled
There was wind from the valley
And hail from the skies
Pull the car to the far right
Let it pass us by

And maybe today
We’ll arrive in the morning
Yes, maybe today
We’ll find the big waves calling
Yeah maybe today
We’ll collect what we've scattered
East fell into west
California mattered

We drove all night
To visit California
We turned around with the sun
When we reached the border
You can lay back in your seat
And hang on to my coat
Close your eyes to the lights
It wasn’t all that we hoped

And maybe today
We’ll arrive in the morning
Yes, maybe today
We’ll find the big waves calling
Yeah maybe today
We’ll collect what we've scattered
East fell into west
California mattered

Bob,
A cool, spacey journey...and the understated but catchy chorus melody had me singing along.
The lyrics are very accessible with details that bring the road trip to life.
Nice spare production - very good music!

Hi Bob,

I really like this! The music and the lyric takes me on the journey with you. Love the lush pedal steel and the percussions. This song has a heartbeat of its own. It's fully alive but in an understated way. It speaks to the listener as the he'she is willfully carried away. Great backing tracks and your vocal is perfect for this. Thanks for a really terrific listen. This was a real treat! WOW!

Alan

This is very smooth. Almost like a country rap. Reminds me a bit of Dylan. Very well done. Rob

As others have alerady said, a nicely understated journey song. I enjoyed going along for the ride. You've got a nice conversational tone, with lines like:

Pull the car to the far right/Let it pass us by

nicely emoted. The line:

California/goner

is "near rhyme" excellence!

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Very cool, Bob!

You reminded me of Lou Reed in places with your vocal delivery.

Good song, nice mix too. Enjoyed!

Oooh - the California beach vibes are strong with this one! I was down there recently, and this tune definitely evokes imagery of the seemingly endless beaches they have down there. The lyrics are poetic too, and I love the dreamy backing tracks you paired with them.

Thanks for the throwback - thanks for sharing smile

Another great groove song!! Love the band...that drum part works perfectly with the contrast of the floating pedal steel. Great images, nice vocal. Really good stuff!! Take care. Greg

Beautiful! Great "smokey" vocals and great job with the BIAB tracks! You've obviously got wonderful command of both and know exactly what you're doing ... wish I could claim any of those things, haha. Very laid back song - enjoyed it, thanks!

Hi rsdean, I really enjoyed the overall tone of this. Fantastic choice of instrumentation. I found this very easy to listen to. Great use of the pedal steel guitar. Nice subtle use of effects on the vocals. Thanks for sharing!

Cheers,
Joe
