I know many forum users are former military. I thought some of you may find the story interesting. I found +++ THIS +++ article on the BBC's website about a US Air Force mechanic that stole a C-130 four engine turboprop transport plane in 1969.
I had no idea something like this ever happened and have trouble understanding how it could. Unfortunately, the story does not place the USAF in a positive light.
Just an FYI for the "flight-line challenged" out there:
Part of a crew chiefs job, especially aircraft like C-130's and especially in that era, is to able to perform engine runs and taxi aircraft (for a variety of both maintenance and operational reasons) - so taking off, then knowing to retract landing gear and flaps only requires knowing a few more cockpit operational steps and parameters.
Or simply pre-reading the on-board "dash one:" or more correctly the "1C-130(insert model/variant here)-1" Technical Order (T.O.), aka flight manual, or reading through steps in the "...CL-1" (check list).

What an odd story. Makes on wonder how he actually got as far as he did.
When I rotated back to CONUS March 15, 1967 I took a C130 from DaNang to Okinawa. What I recall?....they are loud, vibrating machines. I thought UH34's and CH46's (choppers) were loud until that Oki ride.

Being a C-130 avionics MX troop (MX=maintenance, TX=training, WX=weather, PAX=passengers, ..) I have a lot of fond, and not so fond, memories so I tend to follow "trash hauler" (130's) history
There is a link with every Herky Hog (130) ever lost and when & how. Well at least when, not always accurately how. That aircraft has performed more multi-role missions than any other aircraft, ever, from trash hauling to active ground support (gun ship's) from troop transport to SF and SF support, ABCCC duty and a lot of other unnamed missions so details are not always.... well you know.
I own it (as a PDF), read it (laughed in places and got very emotional at other parts), and lived a lot of it during latter part of war - '69 to the end - at multiple locations in S.E.A. and Taiwan and my '66 Gibson ES-335 was there with me and I'm staring at it now as I type.
I worked other aircraft during and after that period of time, in my eleven years as an enlisted troop, but none for that many years straight, and none as loved and hated by me or as dear to me.
I did not work MX after being commissioned; however, I was still deeply involved in aircraft avionics.
I don't have a good picture of the ES by itself but you can see it behind the LP in the first, very crappy, phone camera shot.
Second pic is just me showing off the other wall .
Just an FYI, some of the online ES info is wrong, or at least incomplete, concerning finishes and years. Clearly they did make Mahogany finish in '66, I have a document from Gibson verifying that my serial number was shipped to end dealer in '66. It sat there almost three years probably because 1) asking price in '69 dollars was as high as it is now (adjusted for inflation) and a lot of folks apparently wanted red. I am first and only owner.

Totally off subject (that clearly being eithe Lockheed or Gibson) - that's way too many pill bottles in the picture. (I interpret it as "getting old sucks", a malady I myself experience).
And hey, I've got that same Pop/Rock fake book.

You noticed a fraction of my "old people" (age challenged?) empty pill bottles (I use them for keeping things like resistors, caps, screws, ...) but you didn't notice my 1/100 display of my slide rule collection?
Yep, I have that fake book because it goes with Note's BIAB Fake Disk #2. I suspect that's why you have a copy? Frankly, I haven't even gotten to it yet.
Almost all my fake books are because I paired them up with corresponding Norton Fake Disk's for BIAB.

EDIT deleted the PS, I don't need a bunch of "folks" knocking on door

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows® Today!
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows for free with build 1111!
With this update, there's more control when saving images from the Print Preview window, we've added defaults to the MultiPicker for sorting and font size, updated printing options, updated RealTracks and other content, and addressed user-reported issues with the StylePicker, MIDI Soloists, key signature changes, and more!
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
