More cheese!!

The assignment this time was to write a song about friendship in the style of Randy Newman. Got shortlisted at least. Didn't think it would make it that far.

Let The Friend Be Me
By David Snyder

V1

You need a friend to
Be with you when it rains
Forget your troubles
Stay inside and play a game
Say anything
And the feeling doesn’t change
Your friend will say they feel exactly the same

CH

Oh let that friend be me
Let that friend be me
I’ll stick beside you
‘cross every stormy sea
Let the friend be me

V2

You need a friend
When the going gets tough
You need a friend
Who never says they’ve had too much
Just be yourself they say
‘Cause that’s ok with me
You’re beautiful and wonderful
And it’s the only thing I see

CH

Oh let the friend be me
Let that friend be me
I’ll stick beside you
Til eternity
let that friend be me

Bridge:

When you have a friend
you don’t worry ‘bout a thing
They’ll be driving to your house
Right through a hurricane
No matter what you’ve done
You never take the blame
Without a friend like that
Life is just a crying shame

CH

So let the friend be me
Let that friend be me
I’ll stick beside you
Til eternity
let that friend be me (repeat)

I'm liking your cheese, son.

A nice Newman-ish write - especially lyrically. Melody, too for that matter... Catchy in the way that Randy's "simple" songs are...

The strings are nice - a touch low, I think.

Really enjoyed this. Well done.

(Don't forget about those MIDI SuperTracks - 2064 MST is the MIDI of 2460. Also... if you ever go for another Newman placement, 889:Piano, Acoustic, Solo-Accompaniment PopFunkyTexas Ev 100 is pure Randy)

Loved this David. So glad you got short listed on Soundtradr. That is one tough nut to crack. Would love to see one of your tunes on the credits of a movie sometime...

Sounds good to me, David.

Blows me away how you and a few others here can just write on demand! Takes a special gift to be able to do that.

Really nice work David! The tones in this one are superb. It certainly has a cinematic feel to it, and I love the pretty calming vibe here. It sounds really lush, and simply put, beautiful. On top of that, it is wonderfully catchy and your vocal delivery is sincere and heartfelt.

Great job on this one - thanks for sharing smile

Hello David,

A perfect offering for the request. I really like this softer side of your music. Not only does it show your versatility, but gives us a new dynamic in the David Snyder litany of talent.

Agree with Floyd that the strings could be louder. But this is supreme, regardless. Muchos of enjoyment here, my friend.

Alan

Excellent write! I agree with floyd jane - lyrically, you really got the "sincere" Randy Newman song vibe, and the bridge really cemented it. I heard a bit of Randy in the vocal delivery as well.

In contrast, the melody and harmony - especially the cadences - don't sound like Randy at all, which helps it from sounding slavishly derivative.

Nicely done! smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Nice song and arrangement, your vocals are great and do it justice.

You put a lot in to your music and it shows.

Sometimes I get the push I need by reading some of your posts/ comments. I am a bit distracted sometimes with it all.

Then I read a post or comment full of enthusiasm etc, and it perks me awake then I feel like doing some songs.

Anyway you are one of a few on here whos comments do that ..Inspire.

Thanks Dave.

The medical term for the ability is called crazy.

I am afraid you have to be born with crazy but if we were to hang out some I am sure we could exchange a little crazy and both be better off for it!!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
