Guys,

I am up to date with build #520 I think. All was working wonderful at my last gig last week and today I wanted to do some arranging for a gig this weekend and every saved song has latency, plays too slow and has garbled issues.

Thinking the computer is kind of old and seems to not work unless plugged in even after buying two new batteries. So I am wondering of that could be the problem.

Thought I'd try here before I contact PG Help . . . . any thoughts?

Edited: Oh I have also returned to factory settings and no joy.

Thanks,

Danny C.

Hi Danny,

Let's go to Options - Preferences - Audio. What's selected as the Audio Driver Type?

Please click on Audio Drivers next. What's selected in the window that appears, and what else is available?

Thanks

Also I have read that the latest Win 10 update changes audio settings so be sure to check them out also.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Since latest win 10 update my audio stops when I close biab, sonar, mixcraft, acid and I have to do a computer restart to get the audio back.

I have tried reinstalling audio drivers but still the same.

Yes to all above. I found that after the last Windows update BIAB was changed to the WAS driver, which doesn’t work for me. That’s probably because Windows had changed my audio driver and I had to reinstall it. Then changing BIAB back to ASIO worked.

While the battery power circuit may need repair, I don’t see any relationship to the problem you describe.

Hi Kent,

WAS is selected but I noticed the latency was set to 30 and on my arranging computer it also gas WAS selected (and works fine) but latency was set to 170.

So I changed my "gigging out" computer latency to 170 and it seems to be working fine now. Not sure if it got to 30 on it's own or not.

I have a gig Friday (I will bring a backup) I'll let you know if it held up.

Thanks so very much for the quick assistance.

PS: This computer never goes on line only thing on it is BIAB, so I guess I should update windows, yeah or nay?

Hey Mario,

I did not do any updates on this computer in quite awhile as it is for BIAB gigs only, maybe I should?

Thanks Brother!

Kent,

I spoke too quickly as the joy did not last long. For what it's worth I think Matt and Mario are on the right track as I do not see an ASI0 Driver in the drop down box, just WAS and MME. And when I tried MME it seemed to get worse.

Thanks again for your assistance.

Should I give you a call?

I say nay. I kept my music computer off line for 2 years. When I had to update it was a nightmare. Apparently too much time had lapsed since my version and the latest. I had all kinds of problems with the last one being a download/update loop that took about 4 hours to DL, attempt to update, and then reinstall my previous version. I finally found a way to get around that and I posted it.

So if BiaB is the only program on this laptop I say leave it alone.

PS an after thought. As BiaB is the only program if you do want to update then format the HD, install the latest Win 10, then install BiaB.

I think if I had an older computer that NEVER went online AND that I relied upon for gigs, I wouldn’t update Windows until (years from now) some driver or BIAB wouldn’t work. And at that time I would do the update several days before I needed the computer.

I’m puzzled that you say MME made things worse. Can you elaborate? MME should be fine for BIAB even if your normal choice of audio driver has been ASIO, unless you are recording using a MIDI synth. But tell us about your sound module, and tell us exactly what you are experiencing.

At the advice of nice young lady (Ember) at PG Support I am doing a complete re-install with fingers crossed.

Thanks all for your time and suggestions.

After my 1st post re: garbled latency issues I lost sound entirely. Now after a re-install I still have nothing. Also Ember at PG Music worked with me to no avail while on my own I read every word on the FQ page regarding no sound. And yes nothing is muted as non BIAB files play loud and clear on this laptop.

Just FYI the program worked from the BIAB Hard-Drive but when it is on my computer i cannot get any sound.

I have gigs this weekend, I do have a backup but would love to also have a spare to work with just in case. Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Hi Danny,

Let's click on Options, then MIDI/Audio Driver Setup. Is the "Use VST/DXi Synth" checkbox checked or unchecked?

Please click Audio Settings next. What's selected as the Audio Driver Type?

Hi Danny C,

I once had a problem with no sound....and the only thing that fixed it was to create a new folder (I chose Biab).

This was with one of the PG Music people's guidance (I don't remember who)

I thought how can a folder stop the sound, but, the new folder worked...sound back...go figger?

P.S. I tried to delete the old folder and create it again .... same problem...no sound... so I stuck with the new folder and no problem since...fingers crossed

P.P.S. I just copied the files from the old folder across to the new folder.

George

99% FIXED! Well after chasing the rabbit down many wrong holes this week Michael at Tech Support had me change the Windows 10 Power Settings and that did it.

Not even going to get into the journey saga, just happy it's over. Well with the exception of losing some styles and real tracks along the way but the biggie is done.

Thanks everyone for your assistance.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
