I have a folder that holds all my tunes. Today, I opened that folder to play along & practice a bit. The extensions in the top half of the files have all changed from SGU or MGU to .docx or .bt1 or .BT1. I have no idea how this happened. They would not open. Help.....Hank
I am using Biab 2018 in Windows 7.

Wild guess: what anti-malware program do you use?

You should be able to rename all the extensions. Try one and see if it works.

Could it be that you have .bt1 and other files in the same folder and now the list is sorted by file type, not file name?

Try clicking on the 'Type' or the 'Name' at the top of the items list so see if it sorts them in the order you want and you can then navigate to the songs.

Mat, My antivirus program is ESET NOD32 ANTIVIRUS. I'm presuming this also includes malware.
As also suggested I clicked on "Name" which seemed to organise the files & I could see that with each pile of incorrect extensions there was usually one file with the correct extension so I have deleted all the files with wrong extensions. I hope this is the end of the problem. Thank you both very much....Hank

Yikes,
Deleting those other files could have been a mistake.

Quote:
Hi,

The .bt0 or .bt1 files contain information about the characteristics of the wave file. Band-in-a-Box will make the file automatically the first time it uses the wave file. This saves a bit of time for next time the wave file is used. You don't need to do anything manually to make the file, other than play your drum style

(Note: older Band-in-a-Box versions create .bt0 files, newer version create .bt1 files. Both file types serve the same purpose, and Band-in-a-Box 2012 is backwards compatible with the .bt0 filetype)

To get the genre and artist information to show up, you would need to edit the file DrumStyleInfo2.txt in the bb folder, and add a line for your style, like this:

MyDrums=4,Ev,8,Pop,Rock,,,MyArtist,

The fields in the RealDrums Picker are comma delimited. You then need to close and re-open Band-in-a-Box for the changes to take affect. Note that this file is updated by PG Music, so you should keep a text file of your own with your drums in it (e.g. MyDrumsInfo.txt) and that way it is easy to add back your lines if DrumStyleInfo2.txt is replaced in a Band-in-a-Box upgrade.

I was proposing renaming the extensions, not deleting the files. If you really did delete them, contact Support.

If you used Shift+Del they will be gone but Del will just send to the recycle bin, and if you haven't put your recycle bin out on the street yet to be collected they should be still in it.
In the top right of Windows Explorer type SGU or MGU in.
Search the Computer for SGU or MGU also by clicking on Computer icon then top right search by copy and paste this below:
*.*GU

I tried changing the extension to MGU/SGU but they still did not open. Everything I deleted is still sitting in the garbage can & the remaining files play OK. Thanks again

Hi
Just a thought.
If you look for your mgu/sgu in BIAB song picker and go to your chosen saving place from within there .it will only show you your mgu /sgu song files.

However if you are going to your folder via windows file manager you will see all files in there including the ones you did not think you needed.

I would seriously think about restoring from your bin to the original locations.

Just my take
Mike

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
