Wow! I didn't know that Steinway was currently owned by a private hedge fund company and that their acquisition cost was only $512M in 2013...would have thought much more.

Also didn't know that Steinway's brands include Bach Stradivarius trumpets, Selmer Paris saxophones, C.G. Conn French horns, Leblanc clarinets, King trombones and Ludwig snare drums.

Such a great American brand...very sad to see. And yet, it's amazing to see the prices of vintage Steinway pianos, especially those from the 30's through 50's which can range in the $100K and much more.

I suppose all of these digital synths and VSti's I have didn't help them one bit!

Here's a link to the article:

Very concerning. The Steinway Piano has the most unique action I've ever experienced. A truly remarkable instrument.

As a player of many wind instruments, I was interested by the name dropping in that article of famous brands (Bach, Selmer, Conn etc.). I found from Wikipedia that Steinway Musical Instruments now owns all this (and I've played ten of these brands):

The company produces instruments under the following brand names:[6]

Pianos:
Steinway & Sons – pianos for the top-level market
Boston – pianos for the mid-level market
Essex – pianos for the entry-level market
Brasswinds:
C.G. Conn – single and double horns, flugelhorns, cornets, trombones, trumpets, tubas, sousaphones, saxophones
Holton – cornets, French horns, trombones, trumpets
King – marching brass, trombones, baritones, cornets, flugelhorns, French horns, mellophones, trumpets, tubas, sousaphones
Prelude – trumpets, marching brass, piccolos, flutes, clarinets, saxophones (entry-level instruments) (Chinese)
Vincent Bach – trumpets, cornets, flugelhorns, trombones
Woodwinds:
Armstrong – flutes, piccolos
Leblanc – clarinets
Selmer – saxophones, clarinets, flutes, oboes, bassoons
Vito – entry-level clarinets
Strings:
Glaesel – violins, violas, cellos, double basses (Chinese)
Scherl & Roth – violins, violas, cellos, double basses (Chinese)
Wm. Lewis & Son – violins, violas, cellos, double basses (Chinese)
Percussion and drums:
Ludwig
Musser
Other:
ArkivMusic – classical music recordings
Listen: Life with Music & Culture – magazines
Rousseau – woodwind mouthpieces
Steinway & Sons Label – record label[10]

Brasswinds:
Benge – trumpets, piccolo trumpets, trombones
Cleveland
Martin – trumpets, trombones
Woodwinds:
Artley

Use to be when you looked at a video of someone playing a concert grand piano the piano would be a Steinway. Perhaps I'm wrong but it seems more likely now that the name on the piano is Yamaha.

Or Fazioli.

Hmmm, all this article says is the Chinese company is "considering" making an offer and the offer if there is one, could provoke other offers. It does sound like Steinway could be in play though.

As horrible as it sounds it seems to me that given the black hole new piano sales have dropped into the last few years there's plenty of current Steinways around to full any need someone may have. I just hope some Asian company doesn't decide to turn them into another Bell and Howell and we start seeing late night commercials touting great new Steinway nose hair clippers...

I hope if he does sell Paulson puts stipulations into the contract preventing that.

I hope Steinway does not get bought out by some Chinese group. I don't want to see the quality of the piano diminish, they are great to play and are better than my baby grand at home.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
