Hello all
I got a lovely email this morning giving me my email address and a password that I sometimes use. The email said I had been visiting adult websites with this password and if I dont send 1,000 or (maybe even 1,000,000 I can’t remember because I deleted the email) bitcoin to a certain address they will send out a video of me enjoying these adult sites. Plueease!!!

But on the off-chance that they have managed to get any email addresses from my computer please don’t open any email you get from “me” over the next couple of weeks with an attachment.

Thanks!

It is a pretty widespread recent phishing attack.

They DO have your email and one of your passwords. Typically it is an old password (the one they had for me was 10 years old and not in use.)

They DO NOT have a video of you from your webcam.
They DO NOT have a video of sites you visited.
They DO NOT have your contacts from your computer.

This apparently comes from an older data breach but if you see the password is current you should change it immediately!

What you should do...

Change all passwords and use secure ones!
Don't send them a dime or respond to them in any way.
Delete the phishing email.
Make sure you are using up to date virus and malware software.
Don't worry about this one.

Thanks John. That's what I thought. These people are the pits. I just feel sorry for those people who are so terrified that they actually pay up. I mean if WAS on "adults" only websites and they DID have footage of me on these websites and they COULD get to my contacts list then, actually SO WHAT. I am an "adult" after all lol.

I do use lastpass and will change all the passwords.
Thanks again

The sad thing is, some people actually take their own lives because of being blackmailed by the lowest scum on earth.

This happened to a young guy here with tragic consequences a few years ago, who was compromised online, thought probably he was talking to a woman, they posted or threatened to post to his friends on facebook, and the young guy just couldn't take it any more.

They did track down the guy who did it, and he is now in jail.

Positive thing about it is, the police here look on the person as a victim and even though they might have been caught out on webcam or whatever, they don't blame them in any way.

Don't worry about it, one of the negatives on being on the great world of the internet.

HI Musiclover.
They had a whole investigative thing on Carte Blanche on Sunday about this. It is really terrible. Some guy thought he was talking to lovely young woman on Facebook and after being sent intimate videos they sent some of himself back. Then the blackmail starts... awful.

A couple of years ago I was gigging in a yacht club, and I heard a woman telling another that Microsoft called and said she had a virus. It was too late, she already gave them her credit card number.

We get the fake Microsoft calls from time to time, and even got a fake Apple/Mac call once.

My mother-in-law almost fell for the "Help me Grandma" call, but fortunately Leilani intervened.

The sad thing is that people actually fall for the scams. And some of them are so well done, that even if experienced Internet users drop their guard, they can end up scammed.

I'm glad you didn't fall for it. And if "you" send me some e-mail, I hope the girls are very good looking wink

Ha ha! Well they told me in the email that I have very good taste so I am sure the girls will be pretty.

The bests options for how to react towards e-mails like that have already been stated. Glad to hear you didn't fall for their scamming attempt!

I once got an alert from Facebook that someone in China was trying to log in to my account ( as I have really high security settings, so it alerts me about authorizing new log-ins from different IPs ), so I changed every single last one of my passwords that same day. So far I seem to be in the clear, but just to be safe I change all my passwords every 3 months.

I've had the same email. Very old password. I suspect it is old data from the Yahoo leak.

Joanne,

I got the same email and emailed her back with some live footage of me walking around the house nude eating a pizza.

I told her she could have the entire series for $5,000 in bitcoin--or I could pray for her.

She begged me to stop so I sent her some more and then some Russian guys emailed me back and said they were so sickened they would never be able to visit an adult site again.

So I emailed them some more and apparently half the people at the Kremlin didn't show up to work today. Some kind of a stomach bug.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
