Hi,

I just purchased Set 299 of Realtracks because I specifically wanted the realtracks/Style demo on the PGMusic web site for this realtrack:
Rhythm Blues Straight Mike 12-key.

When you highlight this realtrack in the realtrack picker screen in BIAB a green right arrow is displayed below. When you press that arrow a lovely band demo plays and this is exactly what I want in my BIAB song. This is also the same demo used on the Pgmusic website advertising this Mike Rojas realtrack.

However when you click on the Style and Song buttons in the same Realtracks picker screen you hear a completely different demo, completely different instruments, in a completely different style

It's a lovely jazzy slow blues with heaps of space in it.

To be honest the demo doesn't sound like any of the other Mike Rojas realtracks or styles he's involved in - sounds more like Miles Black.

However - How do I get that exact band demo to play in BIAB?

Thanks for your assistance
Best Regards
Nigel

Nigel,

First to clarify that we are using the same RT...

The "Rhythm Blues Straight Mike 12-key" that you mention is RT 2881.

One of the styles that is associated with this RT is _LEGEND.STY. This style was provided in the BonusPak material for BIAB version 2018.

When I used Stylepicker to load and to generate the _LEGEND.STY, the sound is similar to the PG Music demo at the below link (scrolling down to Set 299).

http://www.pgmusic.com/realtracks.all.php?os=win

From what I can tell, the style _LEGEND.STY has been used to create the demo; it's in the key of A major (?); the demo only uses Bass, Piano and Drums (the other two instruments that load in the style don't seem to be playing).

With the above in mind...

1. go to Stylepicker and load the demo for _LEGEND.STY (or use Realtrack picker to load the demo)

2. mute realtracks 2677 and 577

3. generate and play

Does this sound more like what you want?

Regards,
Noel

Hi Noel,

Thanks for your reply - much appreciated.

Yes It's Realtrack 2881.

I tried loading style: _LEGEND.STY

And playing it in key of A and muting the two guitar realtracks.

This is as far away from the Demo Solo and Band performance for this realtrack as you could probably get - it is a simple Nashville shuffle with an electric bass, extremely simplistic one riff piano part and thrashing drums.

Whereas the demo on the PG Music web site and on the Realtrack picker screen is a beautiful Jazz combo - Upright Bass, very tasty brushes and exquisite piano playing syncopated Jazz notes and phrases.

There are no points of similarity at all.

Please try playing the Solo and Band demos on the PG Music website for Realtrack 2881 - you'll straight away see what I'm talking about. These are absolutely identical note for note to the ones in the Realtrack picker screen.

Thanks for your help.

Best Regards
Nigel

Sorry, Nigel. I don't have any more ideas.

It's probably easiest if someone at PG Music can look at the webpage and see which audio file has been assigned to this demo.

Regards,
Noel

All:

Here is what I am seeing.

1. The Webpage version of both the SOLO and BAND for Piano, Acoustic, Rhythm BluesStraightMike12-key Ev 085 is wrong. A slow jazz sample plays instead of a good old 12 bar blues.

2. The sample file _legend.wma on my computer plays as it should.

3. When I rename _legend.wma to something else to force BIAB to go to the online demo, it sounds just as it should.

If you go to PG Music webpage, get to the realtracks page, look at set #299 and play the following:

[191] Piano, Acoustic, Rhythm BluesStraightMike12-key Ev 085

You will hear what is wrong.

Looks like PGMUSIC is playing the wrong sample file.

[192] to [195] play just fine for RT Set #299.

That is the only thing I see.

When I load the demo song for _legend.sty, everything seems to be OK on my end.

Looks like PGMUSIC either has the pointer wrong for the sound file wrong on their end.

Hi JCLand,

Thanks for your assistance.

Yes I agree - it appears that PG Music have made a mistake and put the wrong demo files against the wrong Realtrack.

I don't want Realtrack 2881 and I don't want _LEGEND style.

PG Music - please just tell me how to get that wrong band demo playing in BIAB.

Best Regards
Nigel

Hi Nigel,

I'm working on figuring out which style was used for that demo, I'll let you know once I have an answer for you.

Cheers

Hi Nigel,

Sorry for the late reply! The demo uses the following:

RT 2881: Piano, Acoustic, Rhythm BluesStraightMike12-key Ev 085, from set 299
RT 2474: Bass, Acoustic, Held Sw 085 from set 234
and the CountryEven8 RealDrums, from RealDrums set 2.

If the piano isn't sounding quite like the one in the demo, you can change the following options (this'll also be changed with a future update patch):

Let's open the Soloist Dialog, select 2881 out of the list, and click Edit under Soloist Maker, on the right.

In the window that appears, check "Treat all majors like dominant 7ths (bluesy)", uncheck "treat all 7th chords like Major (blues ST2 source)", and click OK.

Please let us know if you run into any problems!

Thanks
Kent

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
