So my last telepathic spiritual guidance came from David Byrne.

This time, it came from:

Michael Jackson

This is one submission in the Rock Pop Category for the Xtra Styles thing. Style: Unusual. Those tracks and other info below.

Unusual
By David Snyder

V1

Ain't nobody gonna take this from me
I've always known who I wanted to be
Ain't nobody gonna tell me my name
ain't nobody gonna make feel shame
everybody is so up to their games
they hate themselves and find somebody to blame
So you be proud if you’re a girl or a boy
ain't nobody robbing us of our joy

CH:

Cause we're unusual
and that's all right
we're unusual day and night
and it's why
it's exactly why
it’s why
we're gonna fly
so high
when we wave...goodbye

V2

We’re gonna fly to the edge of the sun
History books will explain what we’ve done
Don’t need no preachin’ cause I’m perfectly fine
I have a heart that’s happy all of the time
Don’t need no trophy or a paper degree
None of those things can put a label on me
So you be happy and just be yourself
And I’ll be happy just to wish you well

CH:

Cause we're unusual
and that's all right
we're unusual day and night
and it's why
it's exactly why
it’s why
we're gonna fly
so high
when we wave…..goodbye

Rideout:

Cause we're unusual
and that's all right
Cause we're unusual
and that's all right
Cause we're unusual
and that's all right

David,

This is excellent! I love it. The feel-good lyrics give so many people from around our planet a huge amount of hope and strength.

There's creativity everwhere. Your writing and singing, your arrangement and prodcution all gleam.

I enjoyed the listen a lot.

All the best,
Noel

Yep, Michael Jackson, bit Black And White in the rhythm guitar. Nice positive lyrics, catchy chorus. You manage to surprise once again smile Good luck for the contest!

Fun listen. I really like the chorus - great build, and exacaly suitable for a song titled "Unusual".

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

David,

A good Pop write.

Nice arrangement. The guitars work really well - very "Pop" - love that delayed guitar sound. Your vocal sits in this perfectly.

Well done.

You are a machine!

David,

Excellent pop song ( with a very "Up" lyric).
Love the arrangement and your vocals.
I don`t know much about Michael Jackson... this brought up a memory of the Jam`s "That`s Entertainment"...
Nice little whoops!

Nicely done David.

A great non "preachy" message that is well delivered by your vocal and the production (the build is very effective).

Enjoyed it!

David, can you moon walk? It would make a great video for this song!

This is a excellent but non-typical love song. This is one of your best for sure.

I loved this one.

Thanks Janne,

I actually took a master class from Michael Jackson's guitar player Jennifer Batten once and she said that he was hands-down the most thoughtful, polite, kind and generous person she had ever met.

She was the biggest nerd in her high school class she said (nerdy glasses, big bulky sweaters and nerdy hair) but Michael watched her audition video and one night her parents called out to her while she was practicing and said she had a call. She asked who it was and they said:

"Michael Jackson. He wants you to go on tour or something."

Then she said, he personally gave her a make-over--clothes, hair, make-up, took her shopping, everything--and transformed her from biggest high school nerd to Rock Guitar Goddess playing Madison Square Garden.

She is a very down to earth lady herself and she said that in spite of the hype, Jackson was the most modest, thoughtful and hard-working person she ever met: but that there was not one note, riff, lighting cue, dance step or physical movement on stage by anyone that he did not create or approve of, down to the millisecond.

It was really eye-opening.

P.S. Just to show Michael Jackson's eye (or ear) for talent, Jennifer went on to become Jeff Beck's musical director, co-writer, album session player, touring player, etc.

Saw the title "Unusual" with David Snyder and thought "No, that can't be". LOL!! The funky guitar may be a bit Jacko but other than that, I would not have made that comparison. However, I love the song!!! Just a great musical and lyrical expedition into the.......unusual. Very, very, very COOL!!! Take care. Greg

Hi David,

It certainly wears the Rock-Pop tag well.

Very entertaining and cleverly put together, particularly in the way you've
managed to get a maxed-out mix without it sounding over compressed. Period correct!

Good stuff.

ROG.

A great pop song David! Your voice reminds me a lot of Joe Walsh. I like the treatment of the vocal and the overall mix.

David,
you're a talented songwriter,that was fun!

But one question was this you?? Did you help Sony as they deny three of the songs on Michael Jackson's first posthumous album were recorded by an IMPERSONATOR??

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
