i've been using Pianoteq VST in BIAB with great success for a year.
however, i just installed the Kontakt 5 Player VST, and am having trouble.
1) the Kontakt Player VST installed fine: - i can run the stand-alone Kontakt player - I am able to add the 32 bit VST as a plugin in BIAB. 2) I can open the VST plugin from the Thru track in BIAB. 3) in BIAB, if i hit keys on the virtual keyboard built in to the VST, i hear the expected sounds. 4) but, if i play the BIAB keyboard for that track i don't hear any sounds. i also don't hear sounds if i assign this VST to a pre-recorded MIDI track(solo) that works fine for the Pianoteg VST. 5) to me, it seems that BIAB is not successfully forwarding MIDI to the VST, but that is just a guess.
The Thru track is probably sending the notes on a different channel than Kontakt is set to receive them.
By default, the Thru track is on MIDI channel 5, so it would work if you loaded the sound into the fifth slot in Kontakt
Alternately, load your sound into the first slot in the Kontakt interface, and select Forced MIDI Chan = 1 in the VST/DX Synths/Plugins window, so any notes sent to the Thru track are automatically rechanneled before reaching Kontakt.
In this screenshot, I'm doing the same thing with SampleTank (I don't have Kontakt on this machine). The Thru track is still set to channel 5, but the notes will reach SampleTank's channel 1 and get played.
In addition to what's been noted above, personally the way I've found the only way to get MIDI play through in Kontakt 5 (I've not tried forcing to MIDI channel 1, and I see it's worked for you, so I have no idea why I'm chiming in here :-/ ...), but I got it to work by selecting "Omni" in the dropdown menu as shown in the screenshot.
Band-in-a-Box 2021 PlusPAK w 2019 Bonus Pak. Custom Build Desktop PC W/ Windows 10 Home 64-bit. CPU: Intel Core i5-9600k @ 3.7GHz (6 core x 6 threads) RAM: 16GB DDR4. Storage 238GB SSD + 2.7 TB HDD. GPU: ZOTAC NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB
Yes indeed as above, I normally use OMNI but sometimes chose the specific midi channel in the Kontakt to match the track channel in BIAB, but more especially in Realband when using multiple instances of Kontakt on different tracks. Have fun Mike

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
