Here's one of my favorite song creations.
A nice, easy listening ballad.
Let me know what you think.

RAGGEDY ANNIE - Copyright by Alan Herring

Verse:
When I first met Annie,
I thought of how many years I had searched just for her.
And though times were hard, I remember how happy we were.
We both were poor,
But I promised her more if she’d come away with me.
With a nod and a simple smile, she began my dream

Verse:
A Crackerjack ring was the only thing
I could buy to seal our vows.
But the look in her eyes told me, “It will do for now.”
A shack was our mansion,
Goodwill our high fashion, when I would apologize,
She’d say “Honey, I’m just happy to be your Raggedy Annie”.

Chorus:
And Raggedy Annie, if I had a penny for all the times we loved,
I’d have gotten you all the things I thought that you needed.
And God only knows, when the cold wind would blow,
How you felt lying next to me.
It was hard to fall asleep beside Raggedy Annie.

Verse:
All through the years, the laughter, the tears,
She never once complained.
Though I never felt I kept the promises made.
Then when she died, all my friends lied
And said I’d make it through somehow.
Though it’s a comfort to know she’s better taken care of now.

Chorus:
And Raggedy Annie,
If I had a penny for all the times we loved,
I’d have gotten you all the things I thought that you needed.
And God only knows, when the cold wind blows,
How I miss you right next to me.
It’s hard to fall asleep without Raggedy Annie.

And God only knows, when the cold wind blows,
How I miss you right next to me.
It’s hard to fall asleep without Raggedy Annie.

Alan..I’m glad I decided to listen to your track!
Lots in here that I liked..the slight modulation in mid-song was very effective, vocal strong, and the BIAB players were “well orchestrated” by you.

I did think that some of the lyric word choices were a bit awkward, to fit the story, but you quite expertly tied them all up with clean, solid rhymes...well done!

Thanks for sharing!

What a tune! A really smooth and sincere sounding throwback to classic country. Your vocals are on point, and I really liked the lyrics here too. A really intriguing story. Great work on the production as well. It sounds really crisp and professional.

Great work, and thanks for sharing smile

Cheers,
Deryk

Alan,

This is absolutely impressive from the very first note.

Excellent lyrics, great vocal, excellent mix.

The harmonies introduced warmth and depth to an already impressive delivery.

Impressive, and I really mean impressive. You're not new at this, that's for sure.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
