Forum Friends, We have been on the road much of the summer. A lot of the time with no cell service. I have been listening to the progress by all of you. This place just keeps getting better and better. In the midst of some turbulent family issues (to be expected with 4 kids, 6 grandkids and a great grand baby due in Jan.) I found time to knock one out. This is the kind of music I made a living at for many years, although I still love Blues and Bluegrass. Both of those are in line to be posted. Missed you guys, Tom

This One’s For You

I had a notion I couldn’t remain

wrapped up and under your spell

Lost for a moment then you’d bring me back

It’s something that you did so well

never had reasons to look to the whiskey

Not much time spent in a bar

But now i crossed over i’m no longer sober

looks like i took it too far

In the wreckage of words that killed it all off

We were just fine but now we’re through

I ain’t too thirsty

But I’ll take that drink

Baby this one’s for you

We had it all between you and me

we’d sure enough find us a way

if I did it over i’d do it all again

except for that very last day

In the wreckage of words
that killed it all off

We were just fine but now we’re through

I ain’t too thirsty

But I’ll take that drink

Baby this one’s for you

I ain’t too thirsty

But I’ll take that drink

Baby this one’s for you

really good job on some old school country.

Not much to not like there. You check all the right boxes..... production, choice of tracks, mix, writing..... it's all there and in it's proper place.

Sounds like it could have been a Merle Haggard song in the day.

Nice.

Hi Tom,

Great to see you with a new song, it's been too long!

This is just so professional on every level, man, those vocals and harmonies! And that pedal steel ... wonderful. Excellent job on the mix also.

Loved it!

Really nice work Tom smile I'm definitely getting some old school country vibes here. Your vocals are top notch, and the mix is crisp and professional sounding. That aside, it just a pleasant tune. Perfectly catchy, and really sincere sounding.

Great job and thanks for sharing!

Classic Cry-in-your-beer Country, through and through.

Great to see ya back, Tom! (Even if it's just for a bit...)

You have the perfect vocal tone for these type songs. That Vern Gosdin kind of thing...

Awesome production/arrangement and mix. Crystal clear (as always). The acoustic guitars sound great. Nice steel (so cool that you can add that yourself - hardly fair, ya know...)

Excellent.

They don't write em like that anymore

except

Tom Adams does

this is excellent in every way

a drunkard's lament, so well written, sang, mixed

it feels classic, there's so much to like

thanks for sharing, enjoyed it so much

"In the wreckage of words that killed it all off

Whoa...does that ever set the tone for a killer classic country tune. Janice was immediately and I mean immediately singing harmony. And she said, "that's one I'll wake up in the morning hearing!"

Janice and I both kinda looked at each other and agreed when floyd mentioned Vern. Never thought about that but, yeah!

A fine treat for us all. Tom steel, Tom write, Tom vocals and a Tom great mix.

This one would sit right in with ANY classic country playlist!

Kudos...

Classic old style country, the kind that I love, and you did it more than justice. Your vocal, your backing tracks and your playing are all outstanding. I can see one of the old outlaws singing this or maybe George Jones.

This was fantastic and maybe your best thus far.

Outstanding!

I always enjoy your songs. Your production is always so impressive. And I have always enjoyed your vocals. The texture of your voice is so good, especially for this type of song.

Great write. Love the steel. Like has been said already, not much to not like about this one.

Good to hear from you!

Steve

Tom,
Great lyrics ( love that twist in verse 2!) and your voice has that lived & lost quality perfect for the style.
Your pedalsteel sounds just right too.
Welcome back from the road.

Man, what a great song. Strong concept, strong write, strong production, and executed so well.

I love the internal rhyme you have thrown in; which breaks up the end rhymes. Brilliant. Lyrically, you had me just waiting to hear what was coming next AND the payoff was always so worth it!

Obviously, the production was what I would expect from you...lacking. Ha! So kidding! Top notch of course! I love how you manage clean AND warm. So NOT easy.

You definitively picked the perfect tempo to create the correct pacing for the entire song. Classic all the way around.

I would sit here and continue to drool over your song while writing my comments; but it will wreck my equipment. Great job again Tom!
