I've recently become a Band in a Box junkie, and I'm using it to do live renditions of all sorts of songs for my band which consists of me (sax) and a great drummer and BIAB. Rich is an excellent drummer and I'd like to make space for him to take live drum solos in my BIAB arrangements. Currently, we just mute the drum patches and Rich is the drummer. I've started hashing out the particulars with him and it dawned on me that I may be re-inventing the wheel. Maybe some one on the Forum has already done this and would be willing to share their thoughts and experiences. I've tossed around the idea of simply making silent space in the song but that requires that Rich be perfect on his solo ending and come in preciscely with the rest of the BIAB band. So, I thought about adding a click during the solo or maybe a bass note on beat one of each measure or a lead in a few measures before the full band comes back in again. I don't want to mess up the drum solo but I also don't want to train-wrech the whole tune.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

A click track will allow live and BIAB tracks to synch. Ableton Live is an excellent software that many use to program their songs and even their entire shows. Ableton Live Lite is a free downloadable version and will meet all your needs. There are loads of tutorials on YouTube. Once you've programmed a show, it is quick and easy to update or change songs around or replace them. It's a very powerful tool.

You can create and use a click track with Ableton Live Lite. You can also load your BIAB tracks and play them from Ableton. they can be synced and played along with the click track as a guide for the live musicians.

Thanks for the input. I will spend some time looking into Ableton and the possibilities. You've been of great help!

You can have a midi click track where you need it in Biab and send that midi to another standalone vsti via midiOut.dll loaded in the click track, the standalone vsti is set to another audio device going to the drummer's ear piece.

Hello!

I have downloaded the drum Software (32) and set it into my vst file...
It loads ok in Biab and I get the screen all right...
but not under "drums" The plug in does not load).
If I choose for ex "soloist" as an instrument, then the drum screen will apear.
Unfortunately, although everything seems to work correctly, (I can change the settings within the plug in) there is no sound coming out from the plug in(Biab itself is sounding ok as usual).
Biab is set to "use vsti plug in")
Have I forgotten something?

Set the drums track to MIDI Only, (right click on it), then load f.i. EZdrummer2 or other to the VST slot for the Drums track if you want to control the sounds via a MIDI-pads drumkit, if that's what you're after .. F

Yyyeesss! It works!
Thanks for the clue... Of course, it was a bad idea to give me the answer, because now I have ten other stupid questions!

1) It seems that, once I have loaded the .dll file within the plug-ins in Biab, it does not "stay there" (as all other plug-ins bravely do). I have to reload this .fll time everytime I use Biab again (??).

2) Once I have succeeded to set 10 measures of "groove" (the blue blocks) how do I send it to Biab? My obvious (lazy) solution of taking it and dumping it to Biab does not seem to work (yes I understand it would be a bit "too simple"!!)

If you want it to load all the time set it as Default Synth, so in the vst window choose the Default Synth track and load MT Power Drummer.
Of course if you use other midi tracks you will have to change them but this will give you MT Drummer on boot.

Once you have made the drum track section you can drag it out to a folder then > File > Import > Import Melody/Soloist from MIDI.
In the import dialog import the section of Midi to the bar you want it to start at, them import the next section.
The midi drum track can be copied or moved from the Mel/Sol track to the Drum track in the Piano Roll, you can copy & paste section to duplicate them.
Or you can use RealBand to drag out of MT Drummer straight to the track then import back to Biab.

OK, Pipeline, all well noted and thanks, thanks and thanks for bringing me further...

Concerning the other drums software, you force me to get untarned!
I HAVE tried to download it and failed completely (shame!). I went through the process gave EMail and registered, but the download did not succeed and I could not load it again (I do not see, when I log in to the site, any possibility to download the softwsre again). So I forgot it, since these plug-ins are not "vital" to my music.
I am just curious of any new progrsam and want to try it...

I've used Reaper to dump my song, "Caravan" from BAIB, opened up a section for silence to acomodate the drum solo, and inserted a click track. That's great! Thanks for all the help. But I cannot figure out how to get the click to play only for the drummer. How does one accomplish this? Are we talking a fancy mixer board with sub-groups, etc.?

If you are using Reaper you can send a audio click track or midi to another Audio Device that sends to a wireless ear piece.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
