New BIAB W10 pc for my Yamaha CVP 405.

Hi ALL
After my recent success with W7 to W10 upgrades on my 2 existing PCs, I decided to push the boat out and buy a new PC so that I could have BIAB and some of my other music software permanently connected to my Yamaha Clavinova CVP405 in my Lounge .
This saves me having to break down and move my existing BIAB PC from my normal every day work station and controller keyboard and Audio interface, to the other room and reset all midi and audio drivers to suit, then change them back again when I bring it back.
As I had not used my 3 BIAB installs allowed, and still had a spare license for Acronis True image it just had to find a suitable PC.
In the end I went for a 24 inch White all in one from HP
Processor - Intel® Core™ i5+ 8250U Processor
- Quad-core- 1.6 GHz / 3.4 GHz- 6 MB cache
RAM 8 GB DDR4 (2400 MHz)
Storage 2 TB HDD (7200 rpm)
The 24” monitor would also mean I could display 2 full A4 size PDF pages of music sheets side by side, useful as the pc screen would be using my music stand .
I followed Noel’s excellent instructions , worked like a dream!

Copied here below for your ref thanks so much Noel.

Transfer to a new computer

What I do when I transfer to a new computer (I've done it a few times since I've been using BIAB), is as follows.

1. I copy my entire \bb and \Realband directories across to the new computer.

• (This allows me to keep everything that I've collected over the years.)

2. Next I run the install program by right-clicking on it and selecting "Run as administrator". I use the latest version of BIAB, choose the minimum install and point the installation to my new \bb and \Realband.

• (This installs Windows things like fonts and sets up the registry as needed for BIAB/RB.)

3. I start-up my new installation of BIAB and then point it to where Realdrums and Realtracks are located.

• (Realtracks and Realdrums paths are set in "Options | Preferences | Realtracks" and "Options | Preferences | Realdrums".)

4. Lastly, I download the latest build from the link below and manually update the program.

The above has always worked for me.

Regards,
Noel

Edit Reason: added a little more detail for clarity

As I said all worked flawlessly except that I had no BIAB HQ instruments in the new copy.
I used the installer from my current BIAB ultra plus pack folder as this is what I had copied .
Looking at the installers in C bb data installers the required hq_instruments_sforzando.exe was not present on the new copy or the original machine,
But I manage to find it in my 2017ultra plus pack downloads that I had a copy of.
All a bit odd as I would have thought I would have inherited it when I upgraded over the top earlier this year.

Your comments would be appreciated on this point.

But all is well Activated and working fine on the new PC. So happy Bunny!
Thanks PG and especially NOEL for making this so easy much quicker than a full install on the new machine from scratch.
Best regards
Mike

The HQ instruments were in
C:\Program Files\PG Music Inc\Band-in-a-Box Sounds

you can copy that then drag Band-in-a-Box Sounds.bank.xml into sforzando vst should work if you can't find the original installer.

Thanks Pipeline

I did get it working by using the original installer from BIAB 2017.
I manage to find it in my 2017ultra plus pack downloads that I had a copy of.
All a bit odd as I would have thought I would have inherited it when I upgraded over the top earlier this year.
Still find it odd though that it was not in 2018 BIAB ultra plus pack folder from
C/ bb/ data/ installers but my guess is as plus packs are for installing over previous installations PG assume that it was previously installed on this machine.
So one to look out for if moving BIAB from one pc to another this way’
Still all good now!
Mike

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
