https://soundcloud.com/scott-schwarz-740132899/two-janetsThis song was inspired by a woman in my writing class at Western Michigan University some years back. She wrote a memoir titled "The Janet Game" where she and her sister during their childhood pretended that both their names were Janet, they had kids, and went shopping together. I found the story humorous and immediately penned this song when class was over. It is peppered with Baby Boomer pop-culture allusions. On a side note: I purchased BIAB on 11/30/18 and didn't realize there was a forum until recently. So I hope no one minds that I am posting some songs I already recorded over the past several months with BIAB/RB. I am also working on new compositions. RB Tracks: RT406 Guitar, Acoustic, Strumming Ev 136 RT2625 Guitar, Baritone Electric, Rhythm RT1692 Bass, Electric, CountryDrivin8thsTriads Ev RealDrums-SouthernPop8ths RT2264 Piano, Acoustic, Rhythm 80sBubblegumPop RT1852 Guitar, Electric, Rhythm PopUpliftArp RC3020 Vocal Aahs, Background Pop3-part All tracks generated in RB and everything else was done in MixCraft. Lyrics Two Janets Hanging out at the grocery store, Griping ‘bout how bad their kids are. They can’t take it no more. Sizing up the cucumbers, Laughing at their spouses Dreaming ‘bout redecorating their picket-fenced houses Have you seen the two Janets I think I’m in love They’re from another planet Scotty, beam me up I don’t want Marsha I don’t want Cindy Just gimme. gimme, gimme, gimme Two Janets Two Janets Teaching kids the alphabet Scarfing down laxatives ‘Cause their clothes don’t fit Riding on the laundry cycle Watching their soaps Home Shopping Channel bargains Make their husbands go broke Have you seen the two Janets I think I’m in love They’re from another planet Scotty, beam me up I don’t want Marsha I don’t want Cindy Just gimme. gimme, gimme, gimme Two Janets I want both of your love I want both of your lovin’ Can you bake me a cake In your Easy-Bake Oven? Really enjoyed this as well. Super vocal and harmonies. Very cool backtrack. Love the bass runs Reminded me of the mid 60s British songs

Hi.
Loved this retro sound! The tracks are all so clean and well-defined. Nothing gets lost in the mix. Super vocal, too! This is truly a fantastic listen.
If I may, one thought for your consideration: Perhaps move the lead vocal a little more to the middle. Really liked the line about watching Hee haw when no one was around - made me laugh! And the stop-ending was spot on. The dominant 7th chord in the chorus was a special touch.
That chorus is killer! What a terrific listening experience.
And by all means, post anything you've done in BIAB. I've posted songs I recorded 6 or 8 years ago.
By the way - really liked it!
Alan

Fantastic job Ezekiel's Storm! I really enjoyed the overall tone of this. The arrangement is wonderful to the ears and the mix sounds quite polished too. Well done!

A really fun, clever song has a heap of Brit Invasion in the vocals. Why is the lead vocal panned to a side?

The lead vocal is dead center on the mix. Could it be SC? IDK, I just listened to it and the vocal is coming through on both the left and right headphone speaker.

Very nice pop song with authentic 50's, early 60's feel in melody and production, although the lyrical content has more modern references Janne

I checked again & swapped ear in the headphones too. Def the vocal leans to one side FOR ME - it sounds as though you've either double tracked, used an ADT or have applied something as I can hear another vocal in the otehr ear slightly quieter and ever so slightly delayed. Psych acoustic tricks often occur when one of near duplicates is slightly ahead - the 1st heard is the loudest heard. Bass seems to be up the middle so I doubt it's stereo balance BUT it's probably just me. A very cool Herman's Hermits vibe nonetheless.

RayC, I'll trust your ears. At 55, I've have some hearing loss. I'll check the vocal plugins to see if one of them is the culprit.

Very cool early 60's vibe and a catchy well performed melody. Nice! J&B PS RayC, I'll trust your ears. At 55, I've have some hearing loss. I'll check the vocal plugins to see if one of them is the culprit. FWIW my (Bud - not my younger wife!) 72 year old ears have been long shot but I'm hearing on our monitors what Ray described.

I think I fixed it. After listening some more, the vocal did sound more dominant on the left. Let me know if it sounds centered now.

that was fun! It had me tapping my foot immediately!
I thought the lyrics were very clever, and the harmonies were perfect for the genre (which reminded me of late 60s bubblegum music when top 40 couldn't decide on a focus demographic)
Good job!

A fun song idea you packed with clever lyrics. The arrangement & style fit well ( RayC mentioned Herman`s Hermits which is right on... a bit of Elvis Costello in there too). Vocal and harmonies sound good.Nice ending. Very enjoyable!

Hello, Ezekiel's Storm
As others said, this is Herman's Hermits. Or Freddie and The Dreamers. I think that the atmosphere of that time is really well out. Enjoyed my listen a lot.
Best regards.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
