I finally managed to finish and get my first album out through my distributor of choice.

I wouldn't have been able to do so if it wasn't for BIAB for MAC 2017 (and previous versions)
Since all 10 songs include either Real Tracks or MIDI tracks for BIAB - I have named them my session musicians, I will not go into the details of each track.

Peter's Garage - Making Tomorrow Great Again - on Spotify

Please leave a comment

One thing I will look closer into for future releases is to further improve the use of Rest, Shot, Hold Chord, Push and changing between 4/4 related and 3/4 related inside the songs.

Really wanted to have a listen, Peter...

But I do not have a Spotify account and do not choose to create one, so sadly, I cannot listen.

Any plans to have it anywhere else?

Peter,

I think this sounds really great. I particularly like The Curses of My Darkest Hour and Songbird although they are all great really, and really well produced.

Smash up job.

I am a big advocate around here of the idea the PG products and tools can be used in the studio to bolster final productions--not just "demos"--and you have certainly helped prove the point.

Not only that but you have captured the "album" feel by producing a series of songs that sound like they belong together, and adhere to a well-maintained consistency in story, flow, production, and engineering. Well done and kudos.

For those who do not yet have Spotify--you can get a free account and the ads are not that bad and don't come that often. It is pretty much the same as creating an account on Soundcloud--and I have 10 of those, I think.

Spotify really is becoming the way to follow independent artists and listen to their streaming albums unless you want to go buy them. I use Spotify to keep abreast of what's new and popular. I would be totally in the dark if I did not log into it once in a while. Plus, I find a lot of great new indie music there.

For those with a moral aversion to Spotify, I would say, well, 20,000 songs a day are going there, and the brick buildings are collapsing in Nashville so no use fighting it. At least artists do get something for streaming on Spotify whereas on Soundcloud you are basically posting your demos in many cases.

Just a thought. YMMV. I know some will not agree with me and that's ok--just pointing out the obvious options in case it helps.

Shook my Ground is cool.

Almost a Brit pop feel to it.

Nice work

As Herb noted, a nice British Pop sound to that (late 60's/early 70's-ish).

Enjoyed the listen.

Hi!

I fully agree with Floyd's comments about early Brit rock. It's a distinctive sound and you captured it perfectly. nicely done!

You Shook My Ground is user friendly.

Hi Peters Garage, Fantastic choice of instrumentation! I found the arrangements are wonderful to the ears and I really dug the chord progressions. Very interesting choices for specific parts. Love the artwork too. Thanks for sharing!

Listened to the first four on Apple Music (where we stream all our music).
We enjoyed them and felt they were well mastered for the album effort.

Nice work! I listened to You Shook The Ground and really enjoyed it. Great chord progressions, and a powerful and compelling vocal performance to match as well. Some ear catching lyrics as well.

Great job, and thanks for sharing!

Hello to all of you - I'm overwhelmed from reading your responses, thank you so much. blush

Allow me to give you a little more insight.

BIAB is where I do the creative song writing, and where it is really a killer application in the work flow is to find the right key to sing the actual song. (I think it's a classic mistake to set the key low in order for the vocal to stay well within the comfort zone).

I tend to mix and match MIDI and Real Tracks from different styles to break out of "ready to go" feel, that PG Music has made available. Usually I prefer to force the tracks to playing more simple - to my taste especially Real Tracks are almost too rich.

When off loading to my DAW Logic Pro X with the BIAB reverb set to zero, the first thing I mostly do is to change the drums, where I combine the BIAB drum MIDI track with a MIDI version of the Auto Drummer in Logic. For this record I preferred my drums simple and minimalistic.

Once that is done - I start to research if any of the Real Tracks should be replaced by my own playing, though I never erase the BIAB tracks, because they will stay in the song if I can't make it far better or more accurate myself. For me the important thing is to get an authentic feeling of unity in the instrument tracks, and for me BIAB is like having top notch Pro musicians in the sessions.

During this very educating album project I realized that sometimes I need the same BIAB song in different versions using different styles, and by doing this I ran into the "go-and-make-yourself-a-cup-of-coffe-feature" when exporting from BIAB to DAW in AIFF or WAV - my Quad Core Mac is running on overload. I don't know if PG Music are trying to improve the time it takes to render each track, but that would be a vast improvement for my workload.

Another issue I ran into were timing problems and twice I stumbled into issues with strange artifacts in the audio track - caused when the chord progression was slightly challenging.

In track nbr 10 - the solo played in the prog rock part - is actually a render of RT1167 played by Brent Mason. I added a Flanger & a bit of Tape Delay and the sound was smashing. I actually consider to give credits Brent, but I'm not sure I'm allowed to do so.

Overall I couldn't have completed my album without having BIAB 2017 Mac (I'll upgrade next year - I had to spend the budget of this year with Izotope for Nuetron 2 and Ozone 8). As I'm sometimes quite critical to PG - I will end up raising my thumb sky high in appreciation of the work you have done with BIAB.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
