I know it has been a while since I have been in this forum. I have had a busy summer and some cataract surgery so I have not been online much. At any rate, here is a piece I am working on for Veteran's Day. The piece was started in Band In A Box and developed in Finale. I then mixed it in Sonar X3. It is really not finished as I am looking still for a male singer to perform the vocal part (right now it is just a sampled male choir singing ooh).

Comments are welcomed and whenever I get the vocal done I will post it.

The link to the piece is here:

Where Are They

Here are the lyrics:

Verse 1
Looked to marry my high school sweetheart
but went across the sea
to fight for freedom for our country.
Remember it's not free.

Had a job, a home
that I would like to share with my wife
But my Country called me
to serve the Lady of Liberty.

Chorus

Where are they?
Those who served
The heroes that made us free.

Where are they?
Heroes who gave there lives
so we could be free.

Verse 2
We celebrate their gift to us.
Freedom that was never free.
Heroes of the promised land,
thank you for your service!

(Chorus)

Verse 3
Looked to marry my high school sweetheart
but went across the sea
to fight for freedom for our country.
Remember it's not free

Had a job, a home
that I would like to share with my wife
But my Country called me
to serve the Lady of Liberty.

Chorus

Verse 4
We celebrate their gift to us.
Freedom that was never free.
Heroes of the promised land,
thank you for your service!

(Chorus)

(Chorus)

Coda
We celebrate their gift to us.
Freedom that was never never free,
Freedom.
Oh, thank you all.

Took a bit to sink my ear-teeth into it, but once I had a melody discerned, was captured by the moving harmonies. Enjoyed it.

Rich, this is a very nice beautiful piece of music. I will suggest that you post the lyrics. That way if someone is interested in singing it they can practice with the lyrics. Also if one does want to sing it you may have to change the song's key.

Ps- also the ending needs some work.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

Thank you for the comments. The ending I used was suggested by my brother but I will look into it.

I will also put the lyrics here for anyone who maybe interested. AND changing keys is not a problem. The piece actually goes through 3 key changes.

Hi Rich,

This is definitely one to be proud of. The melody and its arrangement are, in the words of Furry, "Wonderful soul stirring music". You've really pulled out all stops putting this one together!

All the best,
Noel

Thank you for the comments Deryk. It was a project that was fun to do and brought back good memories and feelings for parents and relatives who have served in the cause of Freedom and are no longer with us.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
