Gentlemen
I need some advice/learned opinions please....
I am a guitar player singer (of sorts). I'm seriously considering a BIAB Audiophile 2012.5 version which apparently has never been used.....NOS so I believe.
Not being a technocrat I need some advice as to whether l should consider this unit @ AUD 290.00 or go for a new upgraded version ...??
All l am going to do with it is write tracks to sing and play over the top of....simple as that. No recording...all live performance work only...
How good was the BIAB 2012.5 Version w.r.t. live performances similar to what I have outlined above....???
Appreciate any advice/info/opinions/comments Gents please...especially from anyone doing live work with the unit mentioned above...
Thankyou
J

I'd say wait for the Xmas offerings, usually starting around halfway December; you'll get quite a lot more bang for the buck, but the fully loaded caboose might be more expensive. The Audiophile version comes on a 2TB external USB 3.0 drive BTW, included in the price. - F

Jay,

Welcome to the forums.

There have been many changes with BIAB since 2012. There are substantially more Realtracks that now come with the program. Most importantly, though, the process used for manipulating audio (stretching, shrinking and pitch-shifting) has undergone major changes. Just in case you are not aware of it, audio manipulation is the behind-the-scenes work that BIAB does to create a backing and it is at the heart of the program.

The present full price of the audiophile version is US$669 (PG Music gives prices in US dollars). If my memory is recalling correctly, that hasn't changed too much over the years.

As fiddler2007 has indicated, each December, PG Music has run special deals with special prices for the Windows version of the program. While there is no guarantee that this will happen in 2018 (because PG Music never give prior notice), historically it has been a regular event. The equivalent specials for the Mac version occur mid-year.

To put some perspective on the price quoted to you for the 2012.5 version of the program, with our present exchange rate here in Australia, AUD$290 is equivalent to around US$210 (this is the value that should be compared to the US$669). With this in mind, AUD$290 is probably not an unreasonable price but given that the program is now 6 years old, I don't see AUD$290 as a bargain deal either.

If you do decide to purchase 2012.5, I would check with PG Music first that you will be able to register it. This is important because registration is what's needed to open the door for the very, very best deals during the month of specials in December.

Hope this helps in some way.

Regards,
Noel

To follow on from Noel's excellent advice, I also suggest that you contact PG Music to ensure that you are able to officially register the 2012 version before you part with your hard earned...

Lots of changes have come about in the ensuing years, and I think the current version can definitely do what you are looking for. It has a new user interface, and many more tracks and features.

Check first. December may offer you a great price deal also.

And 'Welcome' to the neighborhood.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
