A feature I was very excited to try was:
Practice Window->Transpose Songs->Each Chorus

For example, it is great training to transpose a 12 bar blues around the circle of fifths as it plays.

However it didn't work as I hoped.

After every chorus there is a lengthy interruption whilst BIAB re-renders the next 12 bars. And during the rendering process things sometimes went crazy and transposed some tracks more than others, or multiple times per chorus.

What I expected was the entire song including all transpositions to be rendered before starting playback. I tried rendering the song to video as a workaround but the key changes were ignored so I got 12 choruses in same key.

I'm using realstyles but I'm sure it's the same with midi-styles, perhaps lesser so.

Rather disappointing as it makes the feature quite useless, but perhaps, hopefully. I'm missing some secret setting! smile

Delay, if any, would be far less with MIDI.

As a workaround, you could make a song yourself by copying it many times and transposing the parts in sections as needed. Once regenerated, the whole song would play smoothly.

Just for curiosity, how fast is your machine? What is the single-core score from the free utility, Geekbench?

Hi Matt, thanks, I saw in the manual it's possible to copy a section multiple times and transpose it. That's certainly an option, but obviously less flexible and convenient.

I've got a decent DAW PC, no point giving specs or benchmarks, even with fastest PC there will not be smooth transition between choruses.

one more related observation.

it's not actually transpose you want if you're practicing around circle of 5ths. You want a key change. Seems like BIAB doesn't change the key of the song but only transposes the notes, you can end up with some weird chord names, I just saw A# in the key of A.

Ok..it might be time to revisit this with the developers. For example, to avoid rendering time between choruses, would you accept a long initial delay as the whole song is regenerated?

Since you're using RealTracks open the Preferences window ( Ctrl + E ) then open the RealTracks window. Disable the checkmark option to "Speed up generation of RealTracks' and reduce the tempo/stretch quality.

While in the Preferences window also open the Arrange window. Disable "Natural Arrangements". If you desire, you can also set how tempo increases while using the woodshed feature.

This is a known bug that has been reported for years.
This feature is simply not working.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
